Salary: $75K - $85,000 depending on industry experience
Hours: Full-time ONSITE, Mon - Fri 7am - 4pm (flexible hours if needed)
Bilingual: Spanish/English
Position Summary:
We are seeking a proactive and versatile Human Resource Generalist to manage all HR functions in a mid-size construction company recognized for their service and strong work culture. As the sole HR professional, you will oversee the full employee lifecycle, ensure compliance with labor laws, and support a positive workplace culture. The organization prides itself on strong tenure and low turnover. This role requires a hands-on, adaptable individual who thrives in a fast-paced, field-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Employee Relations & Engagement:
- Serve as the first point of contact for employee concerns and conflict resolution
- Foster a positive work environment through communication and engagement initiatives
- Conduct exit interviews and analyze turnover trends
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws (e.g., OSHA, FMLA, EEO)
- Maintain and update employee handbook and HR policies
- Manage workers' compensation claims and safety reporting
- Manage end-to-end recruitment for field and office roles
- Coordinate onboarding and new hire documentation
- Partner with hiring managers to forecast staffing needs
- Liaise with payroll provider to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing
- Administer employee benefits, open enrollment, and leave management
- Maintain employee records and HRIS data integrity
- Coordinate safety training and certifications for field staff
- Identify and implement professional development opportunities
- Support performance review processes and goal setting
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
- Construction or related industry experience
- Fluency in Spanish is a plus but not required
- 4+ years of HR generalist experience, preferably in construction or a similar industry
- Strong knowledge of California labor laws and HR best practices
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Experience with HRIS systems (e.g., ADP, Paychex, etc.)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- PHR or SHRM Certification preferred
