The AVP of Marketing and Distribution reports directly to the President/CEO and is a key member of the Berkley Mid-Atlantic executive leadership team. This role is responsible for strategic planning and management of marketing and distribution to ensure profitable growth. Collaborating with other departments, the role involves developing and executing the company's marketing strategy to maximize shareholder value and risk-adjusted returns.

Responsibilities
The Senior Underwriter builds relationships, maintains distribution channels, drives premium growth, and maximizes renewal retention while ensuring high customer satisfaction within our footprint of Independent Agencies.
Key functions include, but are not limited to:
- Strengthening relationships and educating agents within the agency network to maximize opportunities and achieve profitable growth.
- Achieving new business premium, renewal premium retention, and rate change objectives.
- Evaluating new and renewal information within company guidelines and granted underwriting authority to determine risk acceptability, terms, conditions, and pricing.
- Using underwriting tools to determine risk characteristics, exposure classifications, property limits, and to review and quote business.
- Ordering and reviewing inspections to confirm risk information and acting on unacceptable risk characteristics.
- Determining the need for facultative reinsurance, factoring reinsurance costs into pricing, and completing related procedures.
Qualifications
- BA/BS degree preferred
- 4+ years of experience as a Commercial Property & Casualty Underwriter
- Proven success in developing and maintaining positive relationships
- Excellent communication skills, including active listening
- Collaborative mindset with influential presentation skills
- Analytical thinking with problem-solving abilities
- High energy, resilient, entrepreneurial spirit
- Ability to sell and influence others
- Goal-oriented with a results-driven approach
- Proficiency in Windows applications (Word, Excel, Email) is mandatory
- Experience with online underwriting tools (e.g., Silver Plume, Reference Connect) preferred
- Advanced insurance coursework (e.g., CPCU, AU) or other related classes preferred
