Sr. Benefits Manager

Kaeppel Consulting is in search of a Sr. Benefits Manager for a 6-month contract, onsite role at a client's site in San Antonio. We are seeking a knowledgeable and strategic Senior Benefits Manager to lead the design, administration, and optimization of the University's benefits programs. This role will be responsible for developing and implementing benefits policies, managing vendor relationships, overseeing annual open enrollment, and ensuring clear, effective communications with faculty and staff. The ideal candidate will combine deep expertise in benefits design and compliance with strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills to enhance the overall employee experience and align benefits offerings with the University's strategic goals. Key Responsibilities

Benefits Strategy & Administration Design, plan, and manage comprehensive employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement, and wellness initiatives. Lead the annual open enrollment process from planning to execution, ensuring a seamless experience for employees. Analyze benefits trends, costs, and utilization data to recommend program enhancements and cost-effective solutions. Draft, update, and maintain benefits policies and procedures in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Vendor Management Serve as primary liaison with benefits vendors, brokers, and third-party administrators to negotiate contracts, resolve issues, and monitor performance. Ensure timely delivery of services and high-quality employee support from all benefits partners. Communication & Education Develop and implement clear, engaging benefits communications, including guides, announcements, FAQs, and training sessions. Conduct benefits orientations for new hires and workshops for existing employees. Provide expert guidance to employees and managers on benefits eligibility, claims, and policy interpretation. Compliance & Reporting Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, including ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, ACA, FMLA, and other regulatory requirements. Prepare and maintain accurate benefits records, reports, and filings. Partner with legal and HR leadership to address compliance matters and audits. Collaboration & Leadership Work closely with Payroll, HRIS, and other HR functions to ensure accurate benefits data management and integration. Lead benefits-related projects, such as implementing new systems, wellness initiatives, or plan redesigns. Mentor and guide HR staff involved in benefits administration. Qualifications

Required: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in benefits administration, with at least 3 years in a management role. Strong knowledge of benefits laws, compliance requirements, and industry best practices. Proven success in managing open enrollment and large-scale benefits communications. Experience drafting and implementing benefits policies. Preferred: Master's degree or HR certifications (e.g., CEBS, PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP). Experience in higher education or public sector benefits administration. Proficiency in HRIS and benefits administration platforms. Skills & Competencies
