CONSTRUCTION ESTIMATOR / PROJECT MANAGER
M.T. Laney Co. Inc. is seeking a competent
Estimator/Project Manager
with substantial experience in
site development
to lead the estimating and management of land development projects. This includes residential subdivisions, commercial site pads, public works, and infrastructure improvements involving earthwork, underground utilities, stormwater systems, grading, and paving. This hybrid role requires a strong understanding of both cost estimating and project execution in the civil construction field.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating Duties Review site plans, grading, utility drawings, geotechnical reports, and specifications. Perform quantity takeoffs and price materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor work. Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes Prepare detailed bid proposals and assist in contract negotiations. Maintain estimating database and unit pricing based on historical costs. Project Management Duties
Develop and maintain project schedules and budgets. Coordinate all aspects of construction activities with customers, field crews, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure seamless execution and completion. Attend kickoff meetings and communicate the scope of work. Ensure compliance with local permitting, erosion control, and SWPPP requirements. Conduct pre-construction meetings and regularly inspect the site to monitor safety, cost, quality, and progress. Monitor project progress and adjust plans as needed to ensure timely completion and to control costs. Manage change orders, RFI, submittals, and closeout documentation. Ensure compliance with safety regulations, permits, and codes. Serve as primary point of contact for clients and inspectors. Track and report on project performance and resolve issues proactively. Manage contractual project requirements, including reviewing payment requests, changes in scope, and requests for information. Qualifications
Must be familiar with reading and understanding civil drawings, including grading, utilities, erosion and sediment controls, and other work performed by site contractors. Familiar with public bidding procedures, prevailing wage laws, and certified payroll Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and ability to work with others The ability to manage crews and subcontractors to deliver the scope within budget and on schedule. Detail-oriented with a strong work ethic Ability to handle multiple projects and manage time and workload Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook Valid Driver's license with a good driving record Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check SALARY/HOURLY EXEMPTION:
Full-Time, Exempt Position Salary based on knowledge, experience, and education WORKING CONDITIONS:
Office Environment and travel to construction sites (where PPE will be required), pre-bid meetings, and client sites
WORKING HOURS/EXPECTATIONS:
This is a salaried position, and the hours and demands are based on the job workload. There is an expectation for someone who can be a self-starter and work independently. The base starting times could range from 6 AM to 8 AM, depending on workload, deadlines, and client demands, and can vary from day to day.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:
Stand and sit for prolonged amounts of time Must be able to drive up to 6 hours a day Walk, bend, kneel, and twist Talk and hear Lift and move up to 50 pounds EDUCATION:
A degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred CERTIFICATIONS:
OSHA 30, RPC E&S, SHA Yellow Card The company will offer training and certification assistance NON-ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of HCSS Heavy Bid is a plus, but not required EXPERIENCE:
