Role Summary Reporting to the Vice President, Fiscal Strategy, the Director, Fiscal Strategy will play a critical role as Alliance's strategic implementation and training lead for fiscal operations. The Director, Fiscal Strategy leads the Procurement Team at Alliance, serves as project manager for cross-functional projects between Procurement and Accounts Payable functions, and acts as in-field support to school and home office leaders on fiscal compliance matters. The ideal candidate for this position will be a strong project manager with a proven track record in overseeing a function and navigating complex, multi-level challenges while providing strong customer service across diverse needs. Essential Responsibilities Provide Data-Driven, Department Leadership Leads the vision, goals, and strategy for procurement function while actively participating in day-to-day execution. Oversees and supports team responsibilities including vendor relations and compliance documentation, purchasing, contract management, and customer service inquiries. Provides both strategic guidance and hands-on supervisory support to the Manager, Fiscal Strategy; Supports and improves strong internal controls, and provides customer service to schools and Home Office stakeholders; Leverages data-driven leadership to improve customer service and strengthen fiscal compliance across the organization with cross-functional stakeholders; Ensures school and Home Office leaders are provided with high-quality, timely operational support and customer service. Lead Key Fiscal Strategy Projects Serves as project manager for the nine-month-long, Fiscal Oversight auditing process, taking a lead role in collecting documentation, auditing fiscal compliance within documentation, acting as main point of contact for external auditors and Alliance stakeholders, and identifying future opportunities to reduce risk; Leads and actively contributes to cross-functional compliance projects, including annual contract renewals and price negotiation, annual review of fiscal policies and procedures, and vendor sourcing initiatives; Identifies, codifies, and shares best practices in fiscal operations across Alliance schools and the Home Office. Increase Fiscal Compliance Serves as internal expert on all aspects of Alliance fiscal policy and requirements; Develops and implements policies, creates resources, and conducts training to support compliance and monitors their effectiveness. Provides virtual and in-person implementation support and coaching on an ad hoc basis in collaboration with the Operations Team; Proactively works to prevent and resolve compliance-related issues, while seeking to understand operational constraints and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders. The Ideal Candidates Will Have Belief in and alignment with Alliance's core beliefs and educational philosophy; Compliance, procurement, and/or audit experience; Strong interpersonal skills, with successful experience in developing strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders; Superior listening, written, and oral communication skills; Understanding of the nuances of urban school environments and school culture; Willingness to go above and beyond to contribute to the success of a dynamic team committed to a new future for urban education. Proven track record of effective leadership and ability to implement effective systems, navigate complex issues, and drive strong performance; Strong project management and data analysis skills with the ability to efficiently manage multiple projects and deadlines, work across departments and functions, and translate strategies from plans to action; Ability to effectively communicate, motivate, and manage others towards operational excellence; Experience supervising, coaching, or mentoring staff. Minimum Qualifications At least 4 years of progressive professional work experience in Finance, Operations, or Accounting and a Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university OR At least 6 years of progressive professional work experience in Finance, Operations, or Accounting and a high school diploma or equivalent (e.g. GED) Work Location This position is a hybrid role which will include a combination of working from home, our network office, and travel to school sites. The successful candidate will be given a $400 work-from-home set-up allowance and receive a monthly stipend of $100. Relocation: Individuals residing outside of the Greater Los Angeles area are eligible for a relocation bonus of $5,000 for individuals and $7,500 for new staff with families/partners. Health Insurance: Medical, dental, and vision plan options that are covered at 100% of monthly premiums for individual employees and at least $1,000 per month towards medical family plan premiums. Retirement: Alliance Home Office employees are eligible for a retirement allowance equal to 7.5% of their regular yearly earnings. Paid Leave: Regular full-time 12-month employees receive 8.5 weeks of vacation and paid time off. Full-time employees accrue 3 weeks of flexible paid time off per year and receive 27 other paid holidays as part of our network calendar. Professional Development: At Alliance, we believe in supporting staff growth and development. Home Office staff are allocated $500 per year for professional development expenses.
