Controller Job Description

Job Title: Controller Reports To: CEO + Partners Location: Corporate Support Center FLSA Status: Exempt Summary The Controller reports to the CEO + Partners. They will be tasked to maintain and control the general ledger accounts and business transactions of the organization, applying the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) that includes analytical work and thorough review of financial records. Duties and Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to those listed below. Other duties may be assigned as needed to accommodate the smooth flow of operations and accounting within the company: Maintain integrity of the accounting and financial reporting in accordance to GAAP and company guidelines. Oversee, lead, and develop staff responsible for general accounting functions. Drive the timeliness of period, quarterly, and year-end financial close process. Review, approve and prepare journal entries for period end close. Review, approve, prepare and maintain detailed reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts on weekly/monthly basis. Review and/or prepare financial reports and documentation for auditors and tax preparation performed by external CPA firm. Build strong cross functional partnerships with operations and ownership to resolve accounting issues. Partner in the development, implementation, and maintenance of systems, procedures, and policies to ensure adherence to company guidelines and streamline workflow. Reviewing financial information, converting data to general ledger system, and obtaining supplementary information for preparing financial statements. Lead the annual budgeting process and compile accurate and timely reporting to meet budgeting deadlines. Review current processes and help streamline inefficiencies which could include implementing new technology based on company's needs. Assist with analyzing current contracts/agreements and provide analytics to management. Assist with the implementation of the new leasing standard for 2021. Collaborate on other projects or duties as needed. Qualifications and Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Accounting; an MBA and/or CPA a plus. Four or more years of experience in a multiple company accounting environment; hospitality industry strongly preferred In-depth knowledge of accounting concepts including internal controls, balance sheet account analyses, bank reconciliation, and financial analysis techniques. Restaurant accounting experience with prior supervisory experience. Strong working knowledge of Restaurant365, Compeat or similar accounting system. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word and Outlook).
