Work Schedule: Rotating schedule including evenings and weekends required.

Position Summary: The LibraryAssociate, as a member of the South County Regional Branch, works with thebranch team to create a welcoming and engaging environment for children ages0-11, their caregivers and families. The Library Associate leadsage-appropriate programs for children, including early literacy storytimes,school-age programs and preteen programs. This position represents theLibrary in the community and facilitates outreach to area preschools, schoolsand area partners. The Library Associate participates in systemwide teamsand works collaboratively with staff in Children's Services. Located in southern Mecklenburg County, SouthCounty is the county's largest regional library. South County is a favoritedestination for all ages, serving over 450,000 visitors and circulating onemillion items each year, one-fifth of the circulation for the CMLibrary system.
Essential functions: Perform circulation activities Provide service desk coverage Create and deliver programs to age-appropriate audiences Prepare program reports Provide research assistance to customers Utilize integrated library systems software Assist customers at several service points Train and assist customers on various library policies, procedures, and processes Maintain library's collection of materials Assist with volunteer management Promote and markets library's programs; collaborating with Marketing and Communication to generate flyers and materials pertaining to programs
Minimum Qualifications: Experience: Minimum of two years of library, retail, computer, or customer serviceexperience
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Education/Experience Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted? Yes
Preferredqualifications: Three or more years library experience or experience working with children ages 0-11 years Strong knowledge of children's literature and the ability to work with children and their families Strong organizational and communication skills Ability to work well with public and strong public service orientation Ability to build relevant programming based on community need Technologically adept with a willingness to learn
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of Alpha-numeric sorting systems Various library systems Telephone etiquette
Skills Technology adeptness Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills Excellent time management skills with attention to detail
