Associate General Counsel, Privacy

We are seeking a strategic and experienced privacy attorney to join our Office of General Counsel (OGC) as Associate General Counsel, Privacy. This role will lead the Company's legal efforts in privacy, data protection, cybersecurity, and emerging AI governance. The successful candidate will provide expert legal counsel to senior leadership, guide compliance with evolving privacy laws, and help shape the Company's approach to responsible data use and innovation. Essential Functions: Provide expert and timely advice regarding privacy, data protection, cyber and AI related legal matters to the company, including the C-suite; Review and ensure compliance with Privacy laws and regulations, including CCPA and other state privacy laws, FERPA, SOPIPA and other similar state laws, COPPA, state youth laws, and the FTC Act; Advise business on Privacy-related policies, including establishing/modifying internal and external Privacy policies as needed; Draft, review and negotiate IT and technology contracts and review and negotiate Privacy-related provisions in other contracts, including data privacy agreements and security addendums; Provide Privacy-related input and assistance with respect to the development of new products and services; Participate in investigations (internal and regulatory) and litigation regarding violations of Privacy laws; Advise on legal issues related to security incidents, including notification obligations; Provide legal support on corporate development/mergers and acquisitions transactions and integrations; Engage and manage outside legal counsel where specific legal expertise is needed; Adapt to changes in law, Company processes, technology, and personnel; Prioritize and meet challenging and often competing deadlines for multiple clients, projects, and responsibilities; and Remain flexible and willing to support colleagues and practice areas across OGC as needed for the office to meet work demands. Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no immediate supervisory responsibilities but may supervise or co-supervise one attorney in the future. Minimum Required Qualifications: Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school; AND Twelve (12) years of experience in privacy, data protection, cyber and AI related legal matters, with at least 5 years in private practice. Ideally, with experience inhouse in the education and/or technology sectors across two companies. Certificates and Licenses: Active state bar license Other Required Qualifications: Good strategic and 'big picture skills, including screening the horizon for new developments Experience in successfully presenting to CEOs and Boards of Directors Good interpersonal, leadership, negotiating, and collaborating abilities; Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple, high priority projects with attention to detail; Excellent oral and written communication skills; Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, etc.); Web proficiency; Ability to travel occasionally; Ability to clear required background check.
