Nutrition Care Specialist
Works primarily in inpatient care units providing nutrition care to oncology patients. Essential Duties & Responsibilities (including but not limited to): Screens appropriate hospital patients to prioritize patients to be seen. Develops appropriate nutritional care plans for each patient to reflect current medical history, nutritional status, laboratory data, and through completing a Nutrition Focused Physical Exam. Interviews patients and/or family members, and assesses the nutritional status and/or knowledge of diet when appropriate Documents initial and follows up nutritional assessments and recommendations according to department guidelines. When indicated, instructs patients and family members, when needed, on prescribed diets using educational materials appropriate for patients' learning abilities. Serves as an active member of a multi-disciplinary team Qualifications Basic Education Requirements: Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and supervised practice as dictated by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) (Note: For those seeking registration after 2023, a master's degree is be required) Credentialed through the Commission of Dietetic Registration, or Registration Eligible and will become RD within 120 days of hire Massachusetts state licensure or within 120 days of hire 1-3 years of experience, preferred Maintains dietetic registration, Massachusetts licensure, and continuing education requirements. Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate with physicians, patients, family members, nurses, and others Physical Requirements & Environment: Normal hospital and patient care environment. Must be able to walk or maneuver long distances throughout the hospital. More than 35,000 people working together.
