Utility Maintenance Mechanic I
Under general direction, inspects, tests, adjusts, repairs, and cleans minor mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, and completes painting projects on campus. Essential Functions: Complete repair work order requests as assigned. Complete painting, repair and patch walls, windows and doors, water seal of buildings. Repair minor electrical units, such as emergency lights, alarms, vacuum cleaners, exhaust fans, wall and desk lights. Troubleshoot or replace ballasts and photo-controls. Replace burned out light bulbs and fluorescent fixtures. Adjust or diagnose thermostats and settings related to HVAC systems; Change air filters and belts. Tighten and adjust door closures, window locks, repair screens, drape cords, towel racks and shower doors. Clear clogged toilets and drains and repair leaking plumbing fixtures. Complete minor carpentry such as installing and repairing doors, cabinets, and furniture. Maintain mechanical areas. Participate in emergency response activities. Must utilize work-issued two-way radio and tablet during the performance of duties. Perform other essential duties and tasks specific to the position. Report all problems which require specialty shop attention. Active support for the College's Principles of Community and Principles of Diversity in the performance of job duties. Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Must possess knowledge of electrical, plumbing, painting, and mechanical systems. Must possess knowledge of safe operation and use of tools and equipment, working methods and procedures. Must be able to establish and maintain cooperative relationships. Ability to work with various members of the Scripps community (faculty, staff, and students) and communicate with them in a clear, easy-to-understand way to solve the problem. Must wear uniforms and safety equipment as required. Must be able to do basic arithmetic computations. Qualification Standards: Education & Experience: High school graduation or any other combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and ability to perform the job. Three to five years related experience is preferred. Experience in private or public educational facility preferred. Licenses / Certificates: Must have a valid drivers' license and a driving record acceptable to the college's automobile insurer. Other: This is a regular status, full-time, 12 month, benefits-eligible, non-exempt position. The scheduled hours for this position are Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Schedule will vary and will include some evening, weekend, and special event hours as required by the College. Hourly rate range: $22.00-$24.50. The hourly rate of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
