AWS Cloud Subject Matter Expert (SME)

The position is under the Technology & Infrastructure Innovation Program which requires an AWS Cloud SME to support the team with advising and assisting USPS IT functional groups. Taskings to include but not limited to defining and implementing solutions aligned with a Cloud based Microservices / Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) for infrastructure or business applications. Create architecture deliverables describing cloud solutions in sufficient detail to develop a bill of materials, technology components, vendor components, cost estimations, and design parameters suitable for handoff to implementation teams. Prepare solution descriptions, assumptions, technical approach, and content that explains why solution is recommended, risks and mitigation plans. Additionally, provide technical direction to management and systems professionals engaged in the analysis, design, development, implementation and maintenance of business information systems. HOW AWS CLOUD SME WILL MAKE AN IMPACT: Apply expert knowledge of AWS cloud services and have an Active AWS Cloud Associate or Professional certification. Demonstrate ability to research, analyze, and evaluate existing and proposed business systems and procedures, develop requirements and identify AWS cloud centric system solutions in detailed measurable terms that achieve optimum performance and cost effectiveness. Knowledge of industry developments, business information systems and practices, development methods, procedures, standards, techniques, Agile application life cycle, test driven development, continuous integration of code development, and current cloud technologies, in particular AWS cloud. Experience leading the design, development and deployment of performant cloud business software, in particular AWS cloud, at scale or current hands-on technology infrastructure, network, compute, storage, and virtualization experience. Experience with IT compliance and risk management requirements in a regulated environment such as SOX and PCI for cloud applications, in particular on AWS cloud. Knowledge of information systems enterprise-wide architecture including knowledge of a wide range of foundational technology such as cloud services, servers and storage, virtualization, high availability, performance analysis and management, and enterprise infrastructure monitoring for highly available web-scale systems. Using design patterns for building scalable and maintainable applications/solutions. Clearly document code, models, and technical solutions. Ability to automate complex tasks, in particular on AWS cloud, using scripting or coding skills, or similar current automation tools (e.g., shell, Python, Ruby, PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform, CloudFormation, Chef, or Puppet). Continuous learning and adaptability in a very large IT organization. Communicating complex technical concepts to both technical and executive stakeholders. Troubleshooting software and technical implementations in large-scale enterprise ecosystems. Understanding of concepts like CI/CD, containerization, and deployment strategies for Kafka components in large-scale production environments. Querying and managing data in both SQL and NoSQL databases. Proficiency creating technical diagrams with products like Microsoft Visio or Draw.io. Proficiency creating technical design and architecture documents in Microsoft Word. Proficiency creating business and technical presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint. Proficiency creating data representations, charts and reports in tools such as Microsoft's Excel worksheets and Power BI Location: Raleigh, NC (Preferred) Remote Security Clearance Level: Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust and successfully pass a thorough Government background screening process requiring the completion of detailed forms and fingerprinting This position has a U.S. residency requirement.
