Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Manager to oversee daily accounting functions in a dynamic construction and manufacturing environment. This role will manage AR/AP, payroll, general ledger, and monthly closings while ensuring compliance and accurate financial reporting. The ideal candidate will have strong technical accounting skills, experience in job costing, and the ability to lead a small well functioning accounting team toward operational efficiency and accuracy.
Responsibilities Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including AR/AP, general ledger, and payroll processing (including union and hourly employees) Oversee monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings with accurate and timely financial statements Maintain and improve accounting systems, workflows, and internal controls to ensure accuracy and compliance Monitor project costs, billing, and job costing to ensure accuracy and profitability Prepare reconciliations, variance analysis, and reports to support decision-making Collaborate with HR and production teams to ensure accurate payroll and labor cost allocation Support budget preparation, forecasting, and cash flow management Train, mentor, and supervise accounting staff, fostering professional growth and accountability Work with external auditors, tax preparers, and other compliance professionals as needed Assist with process improvements, automation, and system upgrades to improve efficiency Ensure compliance with accounting standards, industry regulations, and internal policies Provide ad-hoc analysis and support for leadership and project managers Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or pursuit of certification preferred Progressive accounting experience, ideally in a construction or manufacturing environment Strong knowledge of AR/AP, payroll, general ledger, and financial reporting Experience with job costing and project-based accounting Proficiency with accounting systems such as Sage 300, Timberline, and Paylocity Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and organizational abilities Ability to manage and develop accounting staff Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset High ethical standards, self-motivated, and results oriented Familiarity with union payroll and compliance is a plus
