is seeking an experienced and strategic
Senior Director of Project Accounting
to oversee the full lifecycle of project-based financial operations for a multi-division organization. This role is ideal for a seasoned accounting leader with deep expertise in revenue recognition, cost management, and cross-functional collaboration between finance and operations teams. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a geographically dispersed accounting team, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, and driving process improvements to optimize project accounting workflows. This position offers direct interaction with executive leadership, high visibility across business units, and the opportunity to influence financial strategy for complex, multi-entity operations. Candidates should have a proven track record in leading teams, implementing strong internal controls, and integrating accounting functions for acquired businesses. Key Responsibilities: Lead all aspects of project accounting, including job setup, maintenance, revenue recognition, cost tracking, and variance analysis
Partner with divisional and corporate leadership to deliver timely financial insights, analytics, and reporting
Oversee month-end close processes for revenue and expense recognition, ensuring accuracy and compliance with US GAAP
Manage, mentor, and develop a multi-location accounting team, fostering professional growth and operational excellence
Maintain and enforce internal controls, policies, and documentation related to project accounting
Collaborate with operations teams to provide job cost analysis, performance tracking, and ongoing education
Conduct gap analyses and manage integration of project accounting processes for newly acquired entities
Support intercompany arrangement oversight and ensure proper financial documentation
Contribute to ERP system enhancements, upgrades, and implementations, including Oracle Cloud or similar systems
Drive process improvement initiatives to streamline accounting workflows and month-end close activities
Support executive leadership with ad hoc analysis, data mining, and special projects
Education, Skills & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA, MAC, or MBA preferred
Minimum 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with at least 7 years in leadership roles managing professional accounting staff
Strong US GAAP technical expertise, particularly in revenue recognition for project-based businesses
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables, advanced formulas, and large data analysis)
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with senior management, operations teams, and cross-functional stakeholders
Experience in both public and private accounting settings strongly preferred
Prior experience in construction, engineering, or large-scale project industries is a plus
ERP experience required; Oracle PPM or Oracle Cloud strongly preferred
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly
Preferred Qualifications: Background in multi-entity operations and acquisitions
Experience leading ERP implementations or major system upgrades
Track record of successfully implementing process improvements in accounting functions
