Job Description Salary: DOE We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Licensed Psychologist to join our multidisciplinary team, providing essential mental health services to first responders, including police officers and firefighters. In this role, you will provide psychological assessments, individual therapy, crisis intervention, and therapeutic services to help first responders manage the psychological demands of their challenging and high-stress work. The ideal candidate will be skilled in trauma-informed care, able to work collaboratively within a team, and passionate about supporting the mental health of those who serve their communities.
Key Responsibilities: Psychological Assessment & Evaluation:
Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments for first responders to identify mental health conditions such as PTSD, depression, anxiety, and stress-related disorders. Provide clear, actionable recommendations for treatment and care plans. Pre-Employment Evaluations:
Conduct pre-employment psychological evaluations for prospective first responders, assessing their psychological suitability for the demands of high-stress, first responder roles. This includes evaluating cognitive and emotional resilience, stress tolerance, and overall mental health fitness for the position. Provide detailed reports and recommendations based on evaluation results. Individual & Group Therapy:
Provide evidence-based individual therapy, group counseling, and psychoeducation tailored to first responders needs. Address psychological challenges such as trauma, anxiety, burnout, and coping with critical incidents. Crisis Intervention:
Respond to immediate mental health crises and offer debriefing services following traumatic events. Offer rapid psychological support to mitigate emotional distress and prevent long-term psychological effects. Trauma-Informed Care:
Utilize evidence-based, trauma-informed practices to address the psychological impact of exposure to traumatic events. Employ techniques suited for first responders unique needs, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), EMDR, and mindfulness-based therapies. Collaboration with Multidisciplinary Team:
Work closely with a diverse team of clinicians, peer support specialists, and program administrators to provide coordinated care. Participate in regular team meetings, case discussions, and contribute to comprehensive treatment planning. Education & Training:
Lead educational workshops and provide training to first responders on mental health topics such as stress management, emotional resilience, coping mechanisms, and maintaining overall well-being. Resource Coordination:
Help connect first responders to relevant community resources and mental health programs, including support groups, therapy options, and wellness initiatives. Confidentiality & Documentation:
Maintain accurate and confidential clinical records in compliance with HIPAA and other applicable regulations. Ensure timely documentation of assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and other relevant materials. Wellness & Prevention:
Contribute to the development and implementation of wellness programs focused on preventing burnout and promoting mental health. Assist with organizing retreats, debriefings, and other supportive services for first responders.
Qualifications: Required Education & Licensing:
Doctoral degree in Psychology (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) from an accredited institution. Active Licensed Psychologist credential in the state of North Carolina. Valid drivers license and reliable transportation for occasional field visits and outreach.
Experience:
At least 2 years of clinical experience in the field of psychology, with a focus on trauma, crisis intervention, or mental health counseling. Experience providing mental health services to high-risk populations, particularly first responders or individuals in similar high-stress occupations, is highly preferred. Familiarity with trauma-informed care and the psychological effects of first responder work, including post-traumatic stress, burnout, and vicarious trauma.
Skills & Competencies:
Proficient in a range of therapeutic modalities, such as CBT, EMDR, and other trauma-focused interventions. Ability to assess, diagnose, and treat a variety of mental health disorders. Strong communication skills, with the ability to develop rapport and trust with clients in high-stress environments. Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team. Knowledge of relevant community resources and wellness programs for first responders.
Additional Requirements: Ability to handle emotionally charged situations and maintain professionalism and composure under pressure. Willingness to share in a rotating call schedule for immediate needs. Willingness to travel occasionally for outreach and field support.
