Title : CNC and Machining Lead Location : Libertyville, IL Hire Type : Contract to Direct Hire Salary : $24-$27/hr. Benefits : Competitive pay, full benefits package Sterling Engineering is seeking a highly experienced CNC and Machining Lead to oversee and drive machining operations, lead a skilled team, and support process improvements. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity offering autonomy and direct engagement with management. The role includes responsibility for CNC programming, machine operation, training, quality enforcement, and maintenance support. Job Duties :

Program CNC lathe and mill machines using CAM software (MasterCAM) from 2D/3D models Ensure programs align with machine/tooling capabilities, efficiency, and repeatability Continuously improve programs for machining speed, accuracy, and consistency Collaborate with engineering and production teams on design, tooling, and fixturing improvements Operate CNC machines and mentor machinists on setup and best practices Train team members in CNC machining equipment usage Maintain optimal machine utilization and production efficiency Operate manual horizontal and vertical lathes as needed Train machinists in manual techniques to supplement CNC capabilities Ensure manual machining equipment is used and maintained properly Enforce high machining standards with regular inspections and feedback Identify and implement process improvements and cost-saving opportunities Perform or supervise maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs to minimize downtime Qualifications :

Minimum 5 years of CNC operations experience (lathe & mill) Minimum 3 years of CNC programming experience using MasterCAM Strong experience machining various steels: A36, C1018, C1045, 4140, 304 & 316 stainless Skilled in horizontal and vertical axis lathe operation Solid understanding of process optimization, quality control, and safety standards Hands-on experience troubleshooting and maintaining CNC and manual machines Forklift and overhead crane operation required Experience with product sizes ranging from 4" dia. x 2" long up to 45" dia. x 12" long, 6–2000 lbs
