SUMMARY: The Quality Control Laboratory Supervisor supervises Quality Control Associates and Quality Control Technologists, delegates tasks, provides accountability, and verifies work performed. The QC Laboratory Supervisor monitors Dry Production and associated parameters and alerts Dry Production to process deviations and recommends adjustments. The QC Laboratory Supervisor dispositions out of spec material according to a mitigation plan. The QC Laboratory Supervisor works closely with Dry Production, maintenance, and Research & Development to accomplish Food Safety and Quality objectives. This position reports to the Quality Control Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Responsible for achieving Quality/Food Safety Key Performance Indictors (KPIs) Supervises Quality Control Technologists and Quality Control Technicians who are responsible for implementing and enforcing company laboratory testing requirements. Trains and measures progress of Quality Control Lab Technologists and Quality Control Technicians to ensure performance progress and understanding of Good Laboratory Practices. Assist in the enforcement of implemented policies, operating procedures, quality systems and programs which ensure proper testing, evaluation, inspection, and technical support to meet product quality standards. Acts as a quality resource for the operational issues, process improvement activities, new ingredient testing, and new product commissioning. Manages quality control testing of raw materials and finished products to ensure compliance with established specifications and regulatory standards. Reviews and reports nonconformances. Participates in
corrective/preventive
actions through collaboration with other departments. Operates the “Hold” program, including the status, release, and destruction of “Rejected” products as it relates nonconformances in and resulting from Dry Production. Conducts performance appraisals of laboratory personnel and provides feedback. Reviews and approves laboratory documents and prepare work instructions.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Lead and direct Quality Technologist and Quality Technician personnel. Carries out lab management responsibilities in accordance with site policies, applicable federal and local regulations. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training of employees.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree in food science or related field 5 years of experience in a standards-based setting
Computer and Technology Skills: MS office especially Excel, Word, & PowerPoint SAP MiniTab
Skills and Ability: Lab equipment and samplers Able to tolerate and lead Recordkeeping
Ability to motivate and influence others. Significant level of diplomacy and trust. Excellent oral and written communications abilities. Professional image that promotes Saturn Petcare’s brand and culture. Excellent judgment and decision-making skills. Solid interpersonal abilities. Excellent presentation and organizational skills. Ability to write clear, concise emails, facilitate meetings and give presentations.
Language Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and ability to apply concepts such as: fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
