The
Student Engagement Coordinator
serves as an active member of the Student Affairs team by promoting leadership and programming through the Office of Student Engagement. The mission of the Office of Student Engagement is to build a campus community in which all students and student organizations are encouraged and supported in the cultivation of social, cultural, intellectual, and leadership programming. Within the Office of Student Engagement, all students will find a place where their voices are heard and they are empowered to become more competent, purposeful, and ethical members of the Harris-Stowe State University community. The Coordinator of Student Engagement serves as a point of contact for all Harris-Stowe State University students, and student organizations. Principal Duties/ Responsibilities: Coordinator will organize the student organization registration process and maintain the HSSU Student Organization Handbook. This includes Greek Life as well. Maintain an active and up-to-date record of Harris- Stowe State University student organizations, and advisors. Assist with ensuring members of Greek Life and students are in compliance with University policies Provide Co-curricular educational events for the campus community. Advise and monitor City Wide Greek Life organizations, memberships, and execution of policies and procedures for each organization Assist with ensuring that student organizations are in compliance with University policies Maintain and actively update social media pages and various means of communication with students and campus-wide programming bulletin boards Approve and distribute campus advertisements, events, and maintain University social and special events programming calendar Provide monthly opportunities for student leadership and development Serve as advisor to Campus Activities Board (CAB): which is charged to plan and implement campus-wide and evening programs, leadership, and service initiatives, and provide programming that is cultural, educational, recreational, spiritual, service, or of social value. Maintain a welcoming atmosphere conducive to building professional relationships between students, faculty, and staff Oversee planning and coordination of campus-wide signature programming Homecoming, Parent Family, Black History Month, monthly awareness & cultural programming with the other student affairs staff members. Collaborate with University departments, faculty, and staff in developing students centered departmental activities, learning communities, and events. Assist with updating the marketing and branding of the Student Engagement Webpage. Other duties assigned by the direct supervisor. Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree required; in higher education administration, arts administration, public administration, counseling, or related field preferred. Master’s Degree preferred. A minimum 1 year in student orientation, events, and leadership development in an educational setting is preferred Strong working knowledge and understanding of best practices for Student Affairs professionals. Understand and implement Student Development Theory into day-to-day activities with targeted learning outcomes Demonstrated commitment to promoting inclusiveness and cultural competence; experience working with underrepresented students. Ability to accomplish tasks and goals by multitasking and balancing skills in teaching, learning, programming planning, and event management Exemplary and proven organizational, leadership. Outstanding verbal, writing and presentation skills. Must be able to communicate and interact effectively with students, faculty, staff, and all external constituencies. Proficiency in computer skills including MS Word, Excel, databases, electronic communication, the Internet, and web-based applications. Other Required Skills & Abilities: Must be a self-starter who works well in a fast-paced, dynamic, team-oriented, environment Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational ability, and the ability to meet deadlines. Must be perceptive and patient, with strong people skills and a willingness to assist others. Ability to demonstrate ownership, accountability, and teamwork. Ability to focus on results and commit to excellence. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
