Job Description Salary: $17.50 - $19.00/hour ABOUT US: Schaumburg Park District is an award-winning parks and recreation agency that provides its 80,000 residents with a wide variety of recreational programs, classes, and events as well as facilities, parks and open spaces! Our Cultural Arts Department is home to our outstanding theatre program which hosts various productions throughout the year.
JOB SUMMARY: The Technical Director/Scene Shop Manager supports all technical needs for SPD cultural arts events, camps, and outreach activities. This includes planning, scheduling, engineering, executing, and supervising to ensure the safe, efficient, and timely production of all events; as well as ensuring the accurate construction and implementation of designs in line with the artistic vision and allocated resources. The Technical Director/Scene Shop Manager is responsible for overseeing the purchasing of construction materials, supervising the building of scenery, transporting set pieces to the theatre stage, mounting the scenery onstage and overseeing the work of the crews during rehearsals and performances while providing a safe environment for participants and audience members. Ideally, the Technical Director would assist with set up and tear down of lighting and sound systems for theatre, dance, music and other productions and projects.
LOCATION: Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Rd., Schaumburg
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidate must have experience in a theatre setting, proficiency in scenic carpentry, the ability to think creatively, and the ability to organize and plan time efficiently. The preferred applicant will have a degree from a college, university or a recognized trade school focused on live production or similar subject. At minimum the applicant must be a High School graduate with at least 2 years of experience. An ideal candidate must also have operational knowledge of AutoCAD, theatrical lighting systems (including moving light fixtures), audio, and video systems to maintain equipment and troubleshooting issues even during a live performance, or any combination of those departments. This position requires the ability to operate a company vehicle, so a valid drivers license is required.This position will also require working at heights of 1-15 feet above ground.
SCHEDULING & PAY: This is a part-time position with flexible hours depending on performance schedules (some evenings and weekends will be required). Pay rate is $17.50-19.00 per hour depending on qualifications. Position to start immediately.
