About the role :

We are seeking a Plasma Physicist for our Seattle facility to work on building, testing, and developing our proprietary fusion machines, ion sources, electrodes, high-voltage dielectric components, and more. You will leverage your expertise to run experiments, derive insights, and contribute to the team’s progress. This senior role offers the chance to work with a passionate team on an ambitious mission to advance humanity.

In this role, you will :

Lead plasma experiment development on one of our test cells.

Plan and analyze configurations of compact fusion machines, including fusion power, Bremsstrahlung, and loss mechanisms.

Design and specify experiment instrumentation, metrology tools, and processes.

Support Avalanche's scientific studies, including publishing papers and engaging in regulatory, government outreach, and proposal activities.

Travel for conferences, meetings, or company offsite events as needed.

About you :

PhD in Physics, Engineering, or related fields, or relevant experience.

5+ years post-PhD experience.

Experience with plasma experiments' design, procurement, safety, and analysis.

Knowledge of plasma instrumentation and diagnostic tools.

Experience with experimental data analysis and diagnosis.

Knowledge of positive ion source technologies, tools, and methods.

Experience in multidisciplinary research environments.

Bonus skills or experience :

Experience with high-energy plasmas.

Experience with plasma simulation codes like Particle-in-Cell (PIC).

Experience in the fusion industry.

Knowledge of COMSOL / FEM analysis.
