Senior Counsel or Assistant General Counsel
Our client, a large, Ohio-based electric utility, is looking for a senior attorney to lead the company’s legal needs supporting its nuclear operations. This position can be labeled either as a Senior Counsel or Assistant General Counsel and can be located at either company HQ in Columbus or their nuclear site in Michigan.

What you’ll do :
Serve as lead attorney for all nuclear-related legal and regulatory issues, including NRC compliance and licensing
Advise on legal issues tied to the siting, permitting, and development of new nuclear generation, including SMRs
Support litigation related to plant operations, including spent fuel claims and employee-related matters
Provide legal guidance on nuclear export controls (NRC Part 110, DOE Part 810, and DOC regulations)
Negotiate and manage contracts tied to plant operations, services, staff augmentation, and nuclear fuel procurement
Track and interpret changes in nuclear regulatory law and advise on internal compliance strategies
Support and represent the company in interactions with the NRC, DOE, EPA, and state utility commissions
Collaborate closely with nuclear operations, engineering, environmental, and regulatory teams
Draft and review contracts, service agreements, regulatory filings, and proposed legislation
Deliver legal training on nuclear regulatory and compliance issues to internal stakeholders
What you will need :
JD from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in Ohio or Michigan (or eligibility under corporate practice rules)
Minimum 8 years of legal experience, including at least 5 years focused on nuclear law
Strong working knowledge of the Atomic Energy Act, NRC regulations, and related federal / state nuclear law
Experience advising or working within utilities, NRC, DOE, or other regulatory bodies on nuclear-related matters
Familiarity with NRC licensing, litigation, export control, contracting, and rate recovery principles
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to work independently and build strong internal / external relationships
Ability to travel occasionally to company locations, including Columbus, OH and southern Michigan
