Staff Site Reliability Engineer - San Diego, CA
Responsibilities:
Manage over 100 commerce and payment-related services within an AWS cloud environment, ensuring availability, resiliency, scalability, and performance. Collaborate with service development teams to develop, automate, and ensure production readiness of new services and features. Operate as a Staff SRE with expertise in Java/C++, navigating complex application code, influencing technical direction through design, debugging, and production-grade code contributions. Identify operational process improvements and automation opportunities; develop scripts and tools to automate these processes. Enhance observability by implementing monitoring and alerting patterns, developing dashboards and reports, and reducing incident response times. Partner with other SRE teams specializing in data services, platform hosting, and related areas to optimize application performance and resiliency. Lead performance and capacity validation analyses, applying AWS patterns like spot instances, auto-scaling, and EKS to optimize costs. Review service architecture to improve resiliency, availability, and scalability. Provide rotational on-call support to respond, diagnose, and resolve production incidents. Conduct root cause analyses and share insights with engineering teams. Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. 10+ years of experience with Java and/or C++ service development, deployment, and debugging in production environments. 7+ years in high-volume, production-critical software environments, with AWS cloud experience. 7+ years automating operational processes using languages like Python, Node.js, or Go. Experience configuring and automating AWS data services (RDS, DynamoDB, ElastiCache). Proficiency with monitoring/log management tools (Datadog, CloudWatch, Splunk). Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, EKS). Ability to create secure, reusable IaC using Terraform or CloudFormation across multiple AWS accounts and regions. Solid understanding of AWS networking (ALB, Route 53, API Gateway, TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS). Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
