$80,000 per year Job Overview Reporting to the executive director, the development director is an organizational leader responsible for co-creating and implementing a comprehensive fundraising strategy to support San Francisco Center for the book. They will collaborate or coordinate all aspects of fundraising, with special focus on individual and institutional giving, donor stewardship, gift follow-up, and cultivation events. The ideal candidate is a quick learner, energetic, collaborative, and interested in building a new development department. Key Responsibilities Co-create an annual fundraising plan (with the executive director) that aligns with SFCBs revenue goals and priorities. This plan may include spring and fall campaigns, restricted- or designated-fund campaigns, and other initiatives. Collaborate closely with the leadership team, Board of Directors, and staff to support organizational initiatives and report on successes. Conceptualize and oversee a collection of cultivation events that bring energy and attention to the work SFCB does to promote book arts in the Bay Area. Understand and coordinate partnership opportunities with other organizations that may be beneficial to SFCB. Report regularly to the Board of Directors on fundraising activities, progress, and opportunities. Desired Qualifications 35+ years of experience in nonprofit development. Preference will be given to arts nonprofits, though we are happy to consider those with any relevant background. If you think you are a great fit, but your background is nontraditional, please provide a few sentences about how your experiences would contribute to making this role a success. A knack for connecting with donors and understanding what motivates an individual to support an organization. An understanding of, and the ability to educate an internal audience on, nonprofit fundraising best practices. Some event planning experience. Strong management and communication skills and a collaborative spirit; knowledge of (or willingness to learn) database systems and fundraising tools including Bloomerang & QGiv, Google Sheets & Microsoft Excel, project management software, etc. About San Francisco Center for the Book San Francisco Center for the Book is the center of inspiration for the book arts world, featuring the art & craft of letterpress printing, bookbinding, and artists bookmaking. The first organization of its kind on the west coast, we focus on the history, artistry, and continuing presence of books in our culture, as well as their enduring importance as a medium of self-expression. Were the home for Bay Area book artists, and the best place for the wider community to discover book arts. We offer more than 300 workshops annually, and present a range of exhibitions, public programs, and special events. The organizations budget is approximately $1.26MM with approximately 57% derived from contributed income. In the fall of 2025, we will embark on a strategic planning exercise that will shape the next 35 years as we prepare to celebrate the organizations 30th anniversary. Compensation This is a full-time position with an annual salary of $80,000. In addition to salary, SFCB offers the following benefits : three weeks paid vacation plus 4 paid personal days and 12 sick days and 9-10 paid holidays per year. SFCB offers employer-sponsored insurance to eligible employees, and pays for 92% of healthcare insurance premiums and 100% of dental and vision premiums. This position is hybrid, with an estimated 3 days per week in-person at our Potrero Hill office. Some evening and / or weekend event attendance may be required.
