Date: Aug 11, 2025 Requisition No: 858550 Agency: Environmental Protection Working Title: CHIEF OF OPERATIONAL SERVICES-DEP - 37000500 Pay Plan: SES Position Number: 37000500 Salary: Not disclosed Posting Closing Date: 08/16/2025 Position Overview and Responsibilities: Overall administration and management of the bureau’s budget and diverse support activities to the units of the Division of Recreation and Parks (DRP), which requires specialized management skills and techniques in order to ensure the agency mission of high-quality services and recreational opportunities in Florida’s state park system are maintained. Spends majority of their time communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees; and planning and directing employees’ work, and has the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such action. Formulates and directs the implementation of policies, plans and programs relating to areas within the Division programs. Advise and provides consultation and recommendations to the Assistant Director and other Division management regarding Bureau areas of support. Coordinate planning, review and implementation of management plans, operating procedures and policies relating to visitor services, training and professional development, overnight accommodations, administrative support, partnerships, information line, volunteer and CSO management, targeted programs, and information technology services. Represents the Assistant Director at various functions and meetings. Serves as the Information Resources Management Coordinator for the Division of Recreation and Parks. Travel is required. Perform other related duties as required. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of: operational management practices processes and personnel management methods of data collection and analysis the principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communication budgetary processes contract and use agreements effective marketing techniques Skill in: utilizing problem solving techniques and applying critical thinking skills determining work priorities; planning, organizing and coordinating work assignments personnel management team building Ability to: supervise a large staff of diversified positions use Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook apply policies and procedures, statutes and administrative rules solve problems and make decisions; establish and maintain effective working relationships collect, organize, evaluate and analyze data be detail oriented develop staff for high performance; communicate effectively verbally and in writing with diverse audiences work independently Minimum Qualifications: Valid Driver’s License Travel Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a business-related education field Florida Certified Contract Manager Certification (FCCM) Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) Our Organization and Mission: The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is the state’s lead agency for environmental management and stewardship - protecting our air, water and land.
