The Associate Director of Family Engagement, Constituent Engagement will lead family engagement initiatives with strategic oversight of programming and philanthropic partnerships to deepen alumni affinity and support. This position is a key leader in the design and execution of a comprehensive parent engagement strategy, building a robust philanthropic program focused on annual giving gifts and enhancing the parent experience to foster lifelong loyalty to the University. This position will work with Gift Officers to ensure parents and families are integrated into broader philanthropic and engagement strategies. This Associate Director directly supports the University's mission and comprehensive campaign goals by deepening family relationships, strengthening the philanthropic pipeline, and expanding regional and affinity-based engagement. This position reports to the Assistant Vice President for Constituent Engagement.

Core Duties

Drive strategic development for a comprehensive Parent & Family Giving and Engagement Program aligned with the University's Strategic Plan, Comprehensive Campaign priorities, and University initiatives. Develop and execute comprehensive annual and long-term engagement strategies for alumni, parents, and donors in key regions, regularly assessing outcomes to refine and grow impact. Manage and steward a portfolio of 100 to 120 annual fund prospects based on giving behavior and capacity. Develop and implement prospect strategies to identify and solicit prospects through personal visits and written communication to cultivate annual gifts ($1000+) and Family Leadership Council gifts ($5000+). Participate in an annual goal of a minimum of 85 face-to face unique constituent engagement visits. Steward and recognize alumni and parent volunteers to foster a culture of gratitude and collaboration. Identify and foster parent leaders through tailored engagement strategies to strengthen communication, involvement, and overall philanthropic support. Lead the strategic growth, recruitment, engagement, and stewardship of the Family Leadership Council to strengthen its impact as a high-level donor and volunteer group. Collaborate with campus partners to create compelling communication strategies tailored to the parent and family community across print, email, and social media channels. Collaborate with campus partners to align engagement programming and fundraising initiatives with University branding, strategic priorities, and coordinated strategies. Partner with Student Affairs and University leadership to create meaningful parent engagement opportunities. Serve as liaison between families and key offices (e.g., Provost, Deans, Career Center) to connect parents with institutional priorities. Support and co-lead planning for key parent events including Orientation, Family Weekend, Commencement, and Family Leadership Council activities. Co-lead quarterly analysis of engagement metrics including attendance, communication impact, and event quality with the CE Communications Specialist. Track and analyze engagement metrics, co-lead quarterly reviews, and support benchmarking efforts against peer institutions to assess performance, identify gaps, and recommend data-driven improvements.

Education & Experience

Required: Bachelor's degree. Required: Three to five years of professional experience in alumni engagement, fundraising, event planning, volunteer management, advancement, nonprofit leadership or a related field. Preferred: Experience in higher education. Or equivalent education and/or experience.

Effective ability to use and learn computers, technology, software, and applications at level of sophistication required for the duties of the position, including, without limitation, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), the internet, and constituent relations software (e.g. Raiser's Edge). All University of Portland positions require the ability to quickly learn and use new technologies, software, and applications in depth and at level of proficiency required for duties of the position. In most situations, the necessity of learning, using, and supporting new technologies, software, and/or applications does not change a job description nor make the position one that involves higher level duties.

Physical Requirements

Frequently: sit, perform desk-based computer tasks; use fine manipulation and grasp; use a telephone; write by hand; sort and file paperwork. Occasionally: stand and walk; twist; lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds. Occasionally: ability to attend events and activities on or off campus. Frequently: ability to interact and communicate with members of the University and other audiences. Occasionally: travel locally and domestically by car and air.

Working Conditions

Hours of employment: will require working flexible, irregular, and/or longer hours, including evenings, nights, overnight hours, weekends, and holidays, when necessitated by projects and travel. Work-related stress: there will be stress from work-related situations such as those involving challenging, important, urgent, time-sensitive, or multiple matters. Travel: May require travel by car and air.
