The Surgical Technologist works under the supervision and delegation of a surgeon to facilitate safe and effective surgical procedures. The Surgical Technologist is an expert in theory and application of aseptic and sterile technique, knowledgeable of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and surgeon preferences to properly prepare the sterile field, supplies, instrumentation, and equipment. During the surgery, the Surgical Technician provides appropriate instrumentation and assists through a combination of knowledge, participation, anticipation, and critical thinking. The Surgical Technician works alongside and assists the circulating nurse and other members of the surgical team. Responsibilities:Completion of case cartsProper communication with the operating room staffCleaning and care of operating rooms, core, and equipmentDecontamination, cleaning, and sterilization of instrumentationSurgeon preference card maintenanceSupply outdatesWeekday and weekend call coverageEvery effort has been made to make this job description as complete as possible. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or is a logical assignment to the responsibilities, assigned with or without notice.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEMinimum Education: Associate of Applied Science in Surgical Technology through an accredited Surgical Technology programPreferred Certification(s): National Certification as a Surgical Technologist through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)American Heart Association healthcare provider BLS, within one month of hireMinimum Work Experience: Preferred 1 Year surgical technologist acute care experience. Required Skills:Verbal, written, and computer skills Non-Essential Functions1. Position serves both internal co-workers and external customers, clients, patients, contractors, and vendors.2. Access to and/or works with sensitive and/or confidential information.3. Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of healthcare regulatory and compliance (e.g., HIPAA). Skilled in the application of policies and procedures. Knowledge of Business Office Standards and Recommended Practices.4. Perform other duties as assigned.
