Advanced Practice - Cardiothoracic Surgery opening in Waterloo, Iowa
- 55 miles from Cedar Rapids Position Details:
- Full-time, permanent position
- Hospital employed
- Established team of 2 physicians and 3 Advanced Practitioners
- Growing practice with increased volume
- Provide first-assist in the OR
- Will be doing Endoscopic Vein harvesting (EVH)
- Pre/post-surgical patient care at UPH Allen Hospital; Including Critical Care
- Primarily OR with a mix of inpatient, and outpatient
- Excellent subspecialty support

- Experienced staff, both clinical and non-clinical, who know the patients and the community
- Full-time position, including dedicated administrative time, with flexible scheduling to ensure sufficient patient access
- 24/7 hospitalist program is responsible for adult and pediatric inpatients
- Fully integrated system with clinics and hospitals on EPIC EMR to improve care coordination Responsibilities:
- Will be first assisting in OR with Adult Cardiac, Thoracic, and Vascular cases
- Will include invasive procedures including but not limited to endovascular vein harvesting, arterial harvesting, manage intra-aortic balloon pumps, insert/remove chest tubes, and central line placement
- Between 7-10 surgical cases per week
- Average inpatient 8-15 patients with 2 consults daily
- Average clinic patients 18-20 split between providers
- Follow-up patients in the clinic and occasional new consults
- Perform physical exams, medical diagnosis, therapeutic procedures, and prescribe medication
- Respond to calls in the ER and Nursing floors during clinic hours
- Rounding on Perioperative and Postoperative patients
- Participate in OR , weekend, and Phone call only clinic call.
- Order and evaluate labs, x-ray, EKG, echo, and other test as indicated
- Evaluates, interprets and coordinates information to make decisions and recommendations regarding patient care
- Patient-focused, friendly and willing to collaborate in a team environment
- Excellent communication (written and verbal), analytical and problem-solving Qualifications:
- Graduate of an Accredited School of Anesthesia for Nurses
- Board eligible or board certified
- Complies with criteria for recertification
- Hold an unrestricted medical license in the state of State
- Hold current and unrestricted state and federal authority to prescribe and administer medications as necessary or appropriate to the Advanced Practitioners field of practice
- BLS, ACLS, PALS required
- Experience preferred but not required
- Eligible to work in the United States Qualifications:
- Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
- Experience as First-Assist in the OR and with cardiac patients
- Prior ICU and/or Critical Care either as advance practitioner and/or nurse preferred but willing to train
- Hold an unrestricted medical license in the state of IA
- Hold current and unrestricted state and federal authority to prescribe and administer medications as necessary or appropriate to the Advanced Practitioners field of practice
