As a Senior Staff Opto-Mechanical Engineer, you will lead packaging and optomechanical design efforts for our Integrated Photonics team. Your work will focus on integrating new devices and enhancing quantum computer performance through innovative packaging solutions. Collaborate with diverse teams, develop requirements, and drive design and process improvements. Responsibilities
Design, implement, and verify packaging solutions for photonic integrated circuits, ion traps, and lasers. Research and develop novel integration solutions for ultra-high vacuum environments, including 2.5/3D packaging, cryogenic thermal management, and hermetic sealing. Create mechanical designs and drawings, coordinate with cross-disciplinary teams, and manage external vendors. Perform numerical simulations for mechanical stability, thermal effects, and device performance. Manage project timelines, conduct risk analyses, and transition solutions from prototype to production. Document designs, lead reviews, and mentor junior team members. Qualifications
Masters or higher in Engineering or related field. 15-18+ years of hands-on experience in electronics or optical device packaging, preferably with cryogenic compatibility. Experience in NPI teams, optoelectronic packaging techniques, and laboratory automation hardware. Proficiency with CAD tools like Solidworks. Strong communication skills. Preferred Qualifications
PhD in Engineering, Physics, or related field. 13-15+ years developing novel packaging concepts for PICs and micro-optics. Experience managing external vendors and expertise in hermetic and optoelectronic packaging techniques. Knowledge of epoxy materials, cryogenic and UHV materials, and programming in Python. Additional Details
This position is based onsite in College Park, MD, with options for remote work several days a week. Travel is less than 10%. The salary range is approximately $187,358 - $245,300, with comprehensive benefits including health plans, 401K, unlimited PTO, and more.
