AECOM's Architecture + Interiors studio in Boston is currently seeking an experienced

Associate Principal of Interior Design

to join our team. In this role, you will oversee and guide innovative interior design projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver exceptional results for our clients.

A key quality of a candidate will be their ability to bring design leadership and foster a culture of design to an established design practice working with a diverse set of internal and external collaborators. The successful candidate will work on local projects as well as projects in other locations across the country. Regardless of project location, the successful candidate must be entrepreneurial, influential to those outside of design, a strategic thinker, able to drive a design process, possess excellent communication, leadership and organizational skills, and have a willingness and excitement to collaborate with clients and partners across AECOM’s multi-disciplinary platform.

This position will provide the opportunity to expand the diversity of project types and integrate design with planners, landscape architects, architects, interior designers, engineers, and business development professionals. The position will require the ability to build relationships with current and future clients and win new work, delivering proposals, work plans, fee calculations and negotiations. This role is client-facing, with the need to present and clearly articulate design visions and/or concepts, internally and externally, as a function of facilitating the overall design process for complex multi-layered design problems and solutions.

Responsibilities:

Lead and mentor a team of interior designers and architects, fostering creativity and all aspects of well-rounded professional growth

Develop and implement design strategies aligned with client objectives and project requirements

Oversee multiple large- and smaller-scale interior design projects from concept to completion, design through construction administration

Collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and team members to ensure project success and client satisfaction

Present design concepts and proposals to clients, incorporating feedback and revisions as needed

Ensure compliance with regional building codes, regulations, and sustainable design practices

Manage project budgets, timelines, and resources effectively

Stay current with industry trends and innovative design solutions to maintain a competitive edge

Contribute to business development efforts and cultivate client relationships

Qualifications: Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or a related field plus eight years of relevant professional design experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

NCIDQ Certification

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture

Minimum 15+ years of experience in interior design and architecture, with a proven track record of managing large-scale projects

Proficiency in interior design software, including Revit, Enscape, and SketchUp, and Adobe Suite applications and products from them

Strong project management skills, with the ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously, tracking labor costs to ensure profitability and quality of products

Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written

Demonstrated leadership abilities, negotiation skills, dispute resolution skills and experience managing design teams

Commitment to sustainable design practices and their implementation

Creative problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Strong portfolio showcasing diverse interior design projects
