Position Overview A leading electrical contracting firm in San Diego is seeking a highly skilled
Senior Electrical Estimator
to join our preconstruction team. This position plays a pivotal role in evaluating project requirements, preparing detailed cost estimates, and supporting the strategic bidding process for high-profile commercial, industrial, and institutional projects. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in electrical systems, a track record of winning bids, and the ability to mentor junior estimators while collaborating closely with project managers, engineers, and clients.
Key Responsibilities Review and analyze project plans, specifications, and RFP/RFQ documents to prepare accurate, competitive electrical estimates Develop detailed quantity take-offs, labor, material, and equipment cost breakdowns Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids; ensure scope alignment and competitiveness Collaborate with project management, engineering, and operations teams to develop bid strategies and value-engineering solutions Prepare and present estimates, proposals, and scope clarifications to clients and internal leadership Maintain historical cost data and update estimating tools for continuous improvement Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations as required Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior estimators and support staff Ensure all estimating activities comply with company policies, safety standards, and industry best practices
Qualifications Minimum 7–10 years of experience as an electrical estimator, with at least 3 years in a senior or lead role Proven track record in preparing successful bids for large-scale electrical projects ($5M+) in commercial, healthcare, education, or industrial sectors Strong knowledge of NEC codes, electrical construction methods, and materials Proficiency in Accubid and Bluebeam; additional experience with estimating software such as ConEst is a plus Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation skills Ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered California Electrical Contractor license or journeyman background a plus
