What will you do? As a Combo Technicians you will beresponsible for performing both body repair and refinishing tasks on damaged vehicles to pre-accident condition. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of collision repair techniques, structural repair, cosmetic restoration, and paint application processes. The Combination Technician must be proficient in diagnosing damage, developing repair plans, executing repairs with precision, and ensuring high-quality finishes that meet or exceed industry standards and customer expectations. Responsibilities: Damage Assessment & Planning:
Accurately diagnose collision damage, identifying both visible and hidden issues. Develop efficient and effective repair plans, considering cost-effectiveness and structural integrity. Utilize estimating software and work orders to document damage and plan repairs. Communicate effectively with estimators, parts personnel, and other team members regarding repair procedures and timelines.
Body Repair:
Perform structural and non-structural repairs according to manufacturer specifications and industry best practices. Straighten frames and unibodies using specialized equipment (e.g., frame racks, measuring systems). Repair or replace damaged body panels, including welding, riveting, and bonding. Perform metal finishing techniques, including filling, sanding, and shaping panels for a smooth surface. Properly align and fit body panels, doors, hoods, and trunk lids. Repair or replace damaged glass and trim components. Ensure all repairs meet safety standards and restore the vehicle's structural integrity.
Refinish (Painting):
Prepare vehicle surfaces for painting, including cleaning, sanding, masking, and priming. Mix and match paint colors accurately to achieve factory finishes. Apply primers, sealers, base coats, and clear coats using spray guns and appropriate techniques. Blend and feather paint to seamlessly match existing finishes. Perform post-paint operations, such as buffing, polishing, and detailing to ensure a flawless finish. Identify and correct paint defects (e.g., runs, sags, orange peel). Maintain and clean painting equipment, including spray guns, mixing stations, and paint booths.
Qualifications: At least 5 years experience as an Auto Body Technician, with demonstrated proficiency in both body and refinish work. Formal training and/or certification in collision repair and refinishing (e.g., I-CAR, ASE certifications preferred). Strong knowledge of vehicle construction, frame and unibody systems, and repair techniques. Proficiency in using various hand and power tools, welding equipment, frame racks, measuring systems, and paint spraying equipment. Excellent understanding of paint mixing, matching, and application techniques. Ability to read and interpret repair manuals and technical specifications. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work. Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Valid driver's license and a good driving record. Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the job, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
