Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and compassionate Phlebotomist to join our team. The Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting and preparing blood and other specimens for laboratory testing, ensuring proper labeling and handling, and providing a safe and calm experience for patients. This role plays a vital part in maintaining quality control and supporting diagnostic testing services.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture procedures with precision and care, using straight or butterfly needles.
  • Greet and interact with patients in a courteous and professional manner to build trust and reduce anxiety during specimen collection.
  • Accurately label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and package specimens as required by test orders.
  • Confirm laboratory requisitions match specimen tubes and patient information.
  • Store and transport specimens under proper conditions to ensure integrity.
  • Ensure all patient documentation and orders are complete and correct before specimen collection.
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and adhere to OSHA, DEP, and other applicable safety regulations.
  • Maintain and clean equipment and workstations according to infection control protocols.
  • Answer phone calls and respond to inquiries about laboratory results or specimen status, as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate records and logs related to maintenance, specimen tracking, and quality control.
  • Participate in required training, departmental meetings, and continuing education as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.

  • Education Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Valid Phlebotomy Certification for applicable states where certification is legally required

  • Experience & Required Skills:
  • Minimum 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a hospital or high-volume lab environment
  • Familiarity with specimen processing, labeling, and transport protocols
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and data entry
  • Ability to follow instructions and protocols with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated understanding of lab requisition forms and physician orders

  • Excellent interpersonal and patient care skills
  • Strong communication abilities, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Experience working in fast-paced clinical environments


  • Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks
  • Manual dexterity to handle needles, tubes, and medical instruments
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs and assist patients as needed
