nDuties Description POSITION DESCRIPTION:Cleaners perform a wide range of cleaning tasks to maintain assigned areas in State buildings, and surrounding grounds and walkways. Incumbents work independently or as part of a cleaning team in a variety of settings, such as administrative office, classroom, hospital, laboratory, living, treatment, and other work areas. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Performs a variety of cleaning tasks in assigned areas. • Collects and empties trash and recycling in accordance with cleaning schedules; cleans and/or removes hazardous or misplaced items, waste, and spills; and disposes, transports, or places such in appropriate receptacles and locations, following proper cleaning procedures. • Assembles cleaning carts according to assigned tasks; and prepares, mixes, and dilutes cleaning solutions following manufacturer directions. • Washes floors, corridors, stairwells, walls, partitions, and windows using mops, detergents, brushes, and other cleaning devices. • Vacuums, strips and waxes floors, and shampoos carpets, using manual or mechanical equipment. • Scrubs and cleans showers and restrooms, including toilets, sinks, and drains, using hand-operated equipment and cleaning agents. • Replaces light bulbs, and dusts or washes light fixtures and high places, such as ceilings, using ladders, other appropriate equipment, and tools. • Polishes wood and metal surfaces, fixtures, furniture, and equipment. • Monitors cleaning supplies and equipment; and notifies supervisor of supply levels, equipment malfunction, and/or maintenance issues observed during cleaning. • Replaces, cleans, and/or hangs building fixtures and decorative items, such as curtains, blinds, and pictures. • Moves and arranges furniture and equipment in connection with cleaning tasks or in preparation for meetings, events, and other activities. May be required to follow specialized disinfectant, waste disposal, and cleanliness standards in performing cleaning tasks; remove snow and salt walkways; clean sidewalks, drives, and grounds; mow lawns, using mechanical and manual equipment; perform routine laundry tasks; and change bed linens. nMinimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:There are no education or experience requirements for this class. Cleaners must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position and understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
