Summary

The Toolmaker supports manufacturing and engineering departments by producing precision production and prototype components, fixtures, and tools. This role requires expertise in manual machining, blueprint reading, GD&T inspection, and collaboration with engineering teams to ensure quality and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manufacture complex tooling and fixtures in collaboration with Manufacturing and Design Engineering.
  • Set up and operate manual multi-axis milling machines, lathes, drill presses, shears, saws, and surface grinders.
  • Perform secondary operations on production units using various manual equipment.
  • Develop, fabricate, and sharpen cutting tools and specialty tools.
  • Work from engineering drawings, prints, and work instructions.
  • Inspect GD&T features using basic and advanced inspection techniques.
  • Cut open welded units to complete production operations.
  • Assist shop management in training employees in machine shop practices and company-specific procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High mechanical aptitude and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Proficiency in trigonometry for machining calculations.
  • Working knowledge of computers.
  • Understanding of chip formation and metal cutting theory.
  • Knowledge of ANSI/EIA RS–274 (“G” code NC programs).
  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a toolmaker.
  • Experience or formal education in CAD design/drafting.
