Hull & Company is seeking an Associate Underwriter to join our growing team in Dallas, TX!

The Associate Underwriter reviews insurance applications to evaluate, classify, and rate individuals and groups for insurance and accepts or rejects applications by performing the following duties:

How You Will Contribute

  1. Examines documents such as application forms, inspection reports, insurance maps, and medical reports to determine risk factors like applicant financial standing, age, occupation, accident history, and property condition.
  2. Reviews company records to determine insurance coverage amounts and evaluates potential losses due to catastrophe or over-insurance.
  3. Underwrites or brokers risks, ensuring all information is complete, applications are properly filled, quotes and binders are confirmed in writing, policies are issued promptly and accurately, and legal filings and taxes are handled appropriately.
  4. Reviews, analyzes, and underwrites risks submitted by producers; rates submissions; analyzes exposures; issues quotes, indications, and binders; and uses inspection services for additional information.
  5. Markets and develops relationships with retail agency customers to grow business.
  6. Utilizes binding authorities or brokering to extend company facilities and negotiate placements; responsible for underwriting results.
  7. Ensures proper coding on required forms.
  8. Services and maintains existing business while pursuing new opportunities, with a focus on priorities.
  9. Instructs and trains processors and assistants, reviewing their work for accuracy and completeness.
  10. Provides guidance and training to reduce clerical workload and develop underwriting skills.
  11. Fosters relationships with other departments, producers, companies, and competitors.

Licenses and Certifications:

Skills & Experience to Be Successful

  • Bachelors degree from a four-year college or university is desired, or five years of insurance experience, including two as an underwriting assistant.
  • Experience with excess and surplus lines underwriting.
