Definition

Under general supervision from the Assistant IT Director (EA, Dev & Cyber), design, develop, and implement effective business intelligence solutions using Microsoft Power BI. Work closely with department stakeholders, data engineers, and other analysts to transform raw data into actionable insights.

This job class is treated as FLSA Exempt.

Develops and maintains interactive dashboards, reports, and data visualizations using Power BI. Collaborates with departments to translate reporting needs into impactful BI solutions that tell a clear, compelling story. Connects to various data sources (SQL Server, Excel, SharePoint, APIs, etc.) and model data using Power Query and DAX. Optimizes Power BI datasets and reports for performance and usability. Ensures data integrity and accuracy in all reports and dashboards. Creates and maintain documentation related to BI solutions, data models, and report logic. Provides training and support to end-users on Power BI reports and tools. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Assistant IT Director (EA, Dev & Cyber) or the IT Director/CIO.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:

Knowledge of IT infrastructure and applications. Knowledge of database table design methodologies and data table normalization. Knowledge of DAX, Power Query (M), and SQL. Knowledge of software testing and documentation methodologies. Knowledge of Microsoft technologies (Azure, Excel, SharePoint, etc.). Knowledge of data governance and data quality best practices. Skilled in leading customer requirements sessions and transforming insights into story-driven visuals Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Sharp analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to derive actionable insights from data to enhance customer value. Ability to learn new environments and data models quickly with minimum supervision. Ability to develop and maintain positive and effective working relationships at all levels within the Tribal Government and Community. Ability to perform tasks requiring advanced problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently or as part of a team. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to explain complex problems or situations. Ability to impart specific expertise and knowledge to peers and staff through individual mentoring and team efforts.

Minimum Qualifications

Education : A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Engineering or related IT discipline required.

Experience : Three (3) years of experience in BI development with a strong focus on Power BI.

Demonstrated successful experience performing using the following technologies required:

DAX, Power Query (M), and SQL. Data modeling, ETL processes, and database design. Adherence to Agile Software Development Lifecycle methodologies. Microsoft SQL Server or equivalent database technology.

Demonstrated successful experience in the following technologies is preferred:

Azure Synapse, Data Factory, Databricks, Snowflake or other cloud data platforms. Lifecycle management tools (Atlassian Jira and Confluence or similar). Experience with other BI tools (Tableau, Qlik, etc.) is a plus.

Equivalency:

Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience that would allow the candidate to satisfactorily perform the duties of this position will be considered.

Special Requirements:

May be required to work outside normal work hours including nights, weekends and holidays.
