The Director provides strategic leadership and oversight to a team focused on removing barriers, promoting equitable access, and equipping childcare providers with the tools, resources, and professional development needed to foster inclusive environments. Job Details Description The Director of Child & Family Services is a statewide leadership role responsible for advancing the inclusion of children with disabilities in high-quality, typical childcare settings across California, championing Catalyst’s mission and core values. The Director provides strategic leadership and oversight to a team focused on removing barriers, promoting equitable access, and equipping childcare providers with the tools, resources, and professional development needed to foster inclusive environments. This role also leads a statewide social services team delivering critical supports to families, including nutrition education and research-based inclusion strategies. The Director ensures these efforts align with organizational priorities and evolving community needs. In partnership with local, regional, and state agencies, the Director builds collaborative relationships, advocates for inclusive practices, and ensures service delivery reflects the latest best practices in early childhood inclusion, nutrition, and family support. As a key statewide leader, the Director of Child & Family Services serves as both an advocate and driver of quality and innovation within Catalyst’s programs. Key Responsibilities Provide vision and direction for statewide inclusion initiatives, advocating for meaningful participation of children with disabilities in typical childcare settings. Oversee the development and implementation of inclusive practices, nutrition education programs, and family-centered social service delivery. Collaborate with organizational leadership to align department goals with Catalyst’s mission, values, and strategic priorities. Lead the creation and refinement of policies, protocols, and systems that promote inclusion, family engagement, and nutrition education across programs. Oversee the design and delivery of training, coaching, and technical assistance to childcare providers on inclusive practices and environments. Guide the expansion of culturally responsive, family-centered services that address the unique needs of children with disabilities and their families. Support the integration of nutrition education into inclusive early care and education settings. Ensure statewide coordination and consistency across social services and inclusion supports. Provide coaching, feedback, and professional development opportunities to direct reports and team members. Establish clear performance expectations and conduct regular evaluations to support staff growth and accountability. Foster a collaborative, strengths-based team culture that encourages shared learning and innovation. Build and sustain partnerships with state agencies, childcare resource and referral networks, early intervention providers, and advocacy organizations. Represent Catalyst at statewide meetings, workgroups, and coalitions focused on early childhood inclusion, family support, and equity. Advocate for inclusive policies and funding streams that expand access to integrated services for children and families. Utilize data to assess program effectiveness and inform continuous quality improvement efforts. Ensure compliance with all applicable funding, reporting, and licensing requirements. Prepare timely reports and presentations for internal leadership and external stakeholders. Perform additional duties as assigned to support the success of the Child & Family Support team and broader organizational goals. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education with an emphasis in special education, human development, therapeutic recreation, child life specialist, family studies, social work, or related field. 7 years of progressive experience, including supervisory experience, working in early childhood education, child disability services, or inclusive education. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of California Teaching Pyramid strategies. Bilingual or multilingual. Familiarity with youth and child development theories and practices related to including children with disabilities in typical programs. Key Competencies Grounded knowledge of Developmentally Appropriate Practice. Demonstrated leadership, facilitation, and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences through verbal, written, and digital platforms. Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects across geographic regions and disciplines, with exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills. Extensive experience designing and implementing inclusive practices in typical childcare settings for children of varying age groups, balancing attention to detail with a strategic program vision. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build collaborative relationships, offer and receive constructive feedback, and engage stakeholders at all organizational levels. Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work independently, with flexibility to adjust schedule to accommodate meetings, trainings, and events beyond standard business hours. Working Conditions Generally pleasant working conditions Less than 50% of daily assignments involve prolonged physical effort Travel: up to 30% statewide, including travel to meet with direct reports twice a year.
