Phlebotomist Inpatient

The Inpatient Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting specimensincluding blood, urine, and culturesfrom patients in accordance with physician orders and established protocols. This role ensures specimen integrity and patient safety by following standard operating procedures for identification, collection, labeling, processing, and handling. The Phlebotomist maintains a customer-focused approach and may perform draws in inpatient units, outpatient facilities, or nursing home settings. Essential responsibilities include: Producing consistently accurate work with strong attention to detail. Performing venipunctures and fingersticks using appropriate procedures and techniques. Communicating clearly and respectfully with patients, verifying identity by requesting full name and date of birth. Operating within the scope of licensure, certification, and job description, taking personal responsibility for patient care and safety. Complying with National Patient Safety Goals and other regulatory standards; reporting and addressing safety risks promptly. Maintaining adequate supplies in draw rooms and other designated areas daily. Emptying urine containers at the end of each shift. Clocking out at the end of every shift worked. Minimum qualifications include: Completion of an accredited phlebotomy, military medic, medical assistant, or EMT course. At least one year of recent phlebotomy experience preferred. Certification in phlebotomy, medical assisting, or EMT preferred. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, in compliance with organizational policy.
