This is a position within the Selma Fire Department's EMS Division. It is an EMS position that will be assigned to work on an ambulance. The successful person will provide the highest level of care, treatment, and transport for all patients in an expedient and safe manner as specified by Fresno County EMS agency and Selma Fire Department Policy, Procedure, and Protocols. This is per diem employment with no set hours established and no benefits. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Administer Advance Life Support services to sick and injured persons in the pre-hospital and inter-facility setting Maintain, operate, and perform prescribed treatment at the site of an emergency Assess nature and extent of illness or injuries to establish and prioritize medical procedures Provide cardiac monitoring Initiate intravenous access to administer medications or fluids Perform advance airway management Administer oral, sublingual, and inhaled medications Assist in extricating trapped victims and administer initial treatment at emergency scenes Transport sick and injured persons to acute receiving and extended care facilities Communicate with base stations or other medical personnel Administration of other basic and advanced life support procedures recognized by Fresno County EMS authority The successful person will maintain a professional appearance and attitude at all times when representing the Selma Fire Department; responsible for completion and accuracy of all paperwork; assist in the maintenance of EMS equipment and stations; may participate in the department's public education programs and training division; and perform other duties as required. Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: Knowledge of the geography of the local area; all pertinent policies, procedures, and protocol as they apply to this position Ability to drive an ambulance with care and safety in accordance with traffic laws and ordinances; keep records and prepare reports; understand and carry out oral and written directions; maintain cooperative working relationships; use all equipment carried by an ambulance Desired Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge and abilities in qualifying. High school diploma or equivalent is required. Requirements: Possession of a current State of California Paramedic License and Fresno County Paramedic Certificate (required prior to employment) Current Basic Cardiac Life Support and Advance Life Support Current California Ambulance Driver certificate with a current Medical Examiner's card Possession of an appropriate California driver's license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles Mental and Physical Demands: Requires a very high degree of concentration for extended periods of time; ability to analyze and interpret data from a wide array of sources; make corrective decisions under stress; utilization of both strength and agility in the handling of emergency medical situations including moderate walking, lifting of moderate to heavy moving objects (100+ pounds), climbing, crawling, stooping and bending, high degree of hand/eye coordination and ability to hear, taste, and smell. This position is not eligible for benefits.
