Training Specialist

Under general direction, the Training Specialist is responsible for assisting in planning, coordinating, and documenting all training and staff development programs for the Tulsa County Juvenile Detention Home. This role ensures that all employees meet required training mandates under the American Correctional Association (ACA), Office of Juvenile Affairs (OJA), and PREA standards, and helps foster a culture of professionalism, safety, and continuous improvement. Coordinates the scheduling, registration, and facilitation of training programs for all facility staff, including onboarding new employees, annual in-service, and specialized training for Juvenile Detention. Maintains a training calendar that reflects mandatory deadlines and re-certification periods. Ensures accurate tracking of staff training hours, certifications, and compliance using manual logs and/or HRIS systems. Develops, updates, and distributes training materials, manuals, and handouts. Maintains organized and audit-ready training records in accordance with ACA, OJA, and PREA standards. Assists in preparing training reports and documentation for accreditation audits and regulatory inspections. Tracks training deficiencies and proactively notifies supervisors and staff of required updates. Facilitates or coordinates internal delivery of required training such as: PREA training, Trauma-informed care, suicide prevention, defensive tactics/use of force, CPR/First Aid, report writing and communication, and other training as requested. Assist in identifying qualified external trainers and training vendors when needed. Works with HR and department supervisors to assess training needs and develop new learning opportunities. Evaluates the effectiveness of training programs through participant feedback and performance outcomes. Make recommendations for improvement to training content or delivery based on feedback and evolving needs. Collaborate with HR, supervisors, and administration to ensure timely onboarding and recertification. Attend relevant conferences or professional development to stay informed of the best practices in juvenile justice training. Knowledge of juvenile detention operational procedures, ACA/OJA standards, and PREA requirements, recordkeeping, developing training materials, and analyzing training requirements. Skill in Microsoft Office Suite and learning management systems (LMS); organization and record-keeping skills; effective oral and written communication and instructional presentation. Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities; establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others; research and analyze training programs. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Spreadsheet and Word Processing software. This role has no supervisory responsibilities. Associate degree in criminal justice, Education, Human Resources, or a related field and two years of experience in coordinating, facilitating staff training, preferably in a detention, corrections, or residential facility; or any suitable combination of education, training, or experience in related field will be considered. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Certified trainer credentials (e.g., CPR Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor) preferred or must obtain within 6 months. Must be at least 21 years of age- defined by Oklahoma Administrative Code
