Associate Executive Director Of Overnight Camps

Full Time Seasonal (Mid-May through Mid-October) Department: Child Development: Overnight Camp Employment Type: Seasonal - Full Time Location: YMCA Overnight Camps Reporting To: Kate Lemay Key Responsibilities

Key Functions/Responsibilities: Define camp goals and/or define and plan program to reflect camp goals Originate and carry out a system for recruiting campers and staff utilizing brochures, telephone calls, reunions, etc. Prepare and conduct pre-camp and in-service camp trainings Set and supervise opening and closing day procedures for campers and staff Develop routines, schedules, and procedures for camp operation Assign staff activities and other responsibilities Assign campers and staff to cabins Maintain and review records and evaluations of all programs, operations, staff, and facilities Prepare an evaluation and summary of current season including inventories, staff evaluations, camper reports, and recommendations for the following season according to written guidelines Define and monitor crisis management plan, including emergency procedures Organize and/or approve trips out of camp for program, supplies, and crisis management Monitor safety and all procedures as they pertain to the complete supervision of all campers and staff Responsible for daily inspection of cabin in regards to cleanliness of personal items of campers, graffiti patrol and ultimate removal Together with Senior Staff, counselors, and campers, plan and execute evening activities and special event days Be responsible for the welfare of each individual in camp and do all possible to solve problems of campers and staff alike with regards to health, cleanliness, discipline, etc. Help ensure morale of staff by monitoring that staff get enough rest, time and days off, and the recreational opportunities available to them As appropriate, speak with camper parents in a timely and professional fashion Formally meet with executive staff at least twice a week and conduct written evaluations at least twice a season Help provide an atmosphere for developing good morale and well-being among the camp family These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required Ability to communicate and work with groups participation (age and skill levels), and provide necessary instruction to campers Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to camp activities Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Experience: At least three seasons of camp administrative experience preferred 5+ years of camp leadership experience Desire and ability to work with children and adults in an overnight camp setting Assessment of risk management Ability to creatively schedule programs, facilities and staff Ability and experience in supervising staff and campers Ability to meet the public Ability to plan events Ability to plan, originate, organize, and carry out daily and special programs Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control, strong supervisory and counseling skills Current CPR and First Aid certifications College sophomore or equivalent or 21 year of age; Bachelors in camp administration or related degree preferred Proven success in program creation and revenue generation, community relationship building, and risk management. Ability to problem-solve and think creatively Ability to thrive in a fast-paced resident camp setting. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Excellent organization skills and attention to detail Demonstrates initiative and flexibility Excellent skills in all word programs like; excel, Microsoft word, teams, zoom, mass mailing and website editing, as well as social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook Benefits
