Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCC's institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. Position Summary: Assists with duties related to the program as directed. Duties include program reports and orders, communicating with clinical mentors, programmatic assessment, assisting with admissions, and teaching laboratories at on-site and off-site facilities. Functional Responsibilities: Act as a liaison between the clinical affiliate, clinical mentors, and the TCC program officials. Inform the clinical skills instructor of students who are experiencing clinical problems and require a formal clinical performance evaluation Clinical site visits on a rotational basis to evaluate student performance Clinical site visits on a rotational basis to assist clinical mentors with competencies, instruction, and assessment Teach clinical skills at on and off-site laboratories in the following areas: anesthesia, anesthetic monitoring, venipuncture, IV catheter placement, dental prophylaxis, dental radiography, radiology, surgical nursing, and clinical pathology Attend clinical instructor, advisory, and ad hoc meetings Communicate pertinent program information and policies to clinical affiliate clinical mentors and staff Attend veterinary science department meetings Minimum Qualifications: Experience in small animal medicine Must hold an active, and in good standing, Virginia license to practice as a veterinary technician Knowledge of Veterinary Sciences at the Licensed Veterinary Technician level. Knowledge of materials & equipment in Veterinary clinics. Good communication skills to include ability to follow written and verbal directions. Ability to instruct, supervise, and assist veterinary students. Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS). Ability to identify and mitigate safe and unsafe laboratory practices. Ability to multitask. Ability to work as a team. Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office
