Job Summary

Position: Secondary Math Specialist/Instructional Coach (Grades 612) Location: Escambia County Schools, Alabama Contract Length: 202 Days (10-Month Position) Reports To: Assistant Superintendent Position Overview

Escambia County Schools is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Secondary Math Specialist to support effective mathematics instruction and student achievement across grades 612. While the position emphasizes intensive support for middle schools, the specialist will also assist high school teachers and leaders with curriculum implementation, interventions, and preparation for key assessments, including the ACAP Summative and ACT. The ideal candidate is an instructional leader who can coach teachers, analyze data, facilitate small-group interventions, and lead professional development aligned with the Alabama Course of Study for Mathematics. Key Responsibilities

Instructional Support & Coaching

Provide on-site support and instructional coaching for math teachers in grades 612, with a primary focus on middle school. Model high-quality, standards-based math instruction, including co-teaching and observation-feedback cycles. Support alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment to Alabama's College and Career Ready Standards. Data-Driven Interventions

Analyze student performance data (classroom, ACAP, ACT, i-Ready, etc.) to identify instructional gaps and student needs. Design and implement targeted interventions for struggling students using Tier 2 and Tier 3 MTSS strategies. Collaborate with school-based teams to monitor and adjust instructional supports. Assessment Readiness

Lead the planning and implementation of ACAP Summative preparation for middle school students. Coordinate and support ACT preparation camps and resources for high school students. Develop and share test-aligned instructional strategies and materials. Professional Learning

Facilitate high-impact professional development and PLCs focused on improving math content knowledge and pedagogy. Support teacher capacity in using formative assessments, manipulatives, technology, and engagement strategies in math. Collaborate with district instructional teams to create and disseminate math instructional resources. Curriculum and Instructional Design

Assist with the review, selection, and implementation of district-adopted math curriculum and digital tools. Support teachers in lesson planning, pacing, and differentiating instruction for diverse learners. Collaboration & Communication

Serve as a liaison between district departments and school teams regarding math initiatives and supports. Communicate regularly with principals and teachers to align support with school-specific needs. Participate in district leadership and school improvement teams. Minimum Qualifications

Valid Alabama teaching certificate in Secondary Mathematics (Grades 612). Administrative certificate preferred. Minimum of 3 years of successful classroom teaching experience in mathematics, preferably in middle and/or high school. Proven ability to lead instructional improvement initiatives. Strong knowledge of mathematics pedagogy, the Alabama Course of Study, ACAP, and ACT content. Experience using student data to inform instruction and interventions. Excellent organizational, communication, and facilitation skills. Preferred Qualifications

Experience as an instructional coach, interventionist, or curriculum leader. Training in MTSS implementation and/or formative assessment practices. Familiarity with math technology tools (iReady, IXL, etc.). Master's degree in Math Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field. Work Schedule & Compensation

Contract: 202-day (10-month) position Salary: Based on the Escambia County Schools' salary schedule, commensurate with qualifications and experience Location: Districtwide support; travel to middle and high school campuses required Benefits: Full-time benefits including health insurance, retirement contributions, and professional development Salary schedules are found on the main Escambia County Schools website. Use the following information when requesting verification of experience from your past employment at other boards of education: Within the state of Alabama, experience must be verified on Supplement EXP Outside the state of Alabama, we must have a letter (on school district letterhead) or public school district form showing beginning and ending dates stating your years of service and position held while employed Credit is awarded for public school experience only, private, parochial, or similar experience will not be accepted Experience must be full time at least 50%-100% of the academic year Administrative credit will be awarded only for experience in the same position, i.e., principal for principal position as stated in the salary schedule Transfer Sick Leave: If you have sick leave from another state school system or from another state of Alabama agency, you must have a Sick Leave Transfer form sent from your previous employer to our Human Resources department The Escambia County Schools awards a salary based on the highest degree earned, even if the degree is outside education.
