Electric Sustainability Specialist Electric Generation System Specialist I $8,983.00 - $11,115.00 per Month New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable. Job Description and Duties Under the direction of the Supervisor of the Sustainability and Health (SH) Unit, the Electric Generation System Specialist I (EGSS I) serves as part of interdisciplinary and/or interdivisional teams to plan and implement the California Energy Commission's (CEC) research, development, demonstration, and deployment (RDD&D) programs. The EGSS I performs responsible, varied and complex technical and analytical work to evaluate emerging electric generation and other load-balancing technologies in the context of California's electricity system resource plans, environmental resources, and related policies. They act as a lead in technical RD&D planning and evaluation, solicitation development and management, project management, policy input, participant engagement, guidance, and consultation services in the areas of sustainability as it relates to decarbonizing California's energy sector. The Energy Research & Development Division deploys over $300 million annually to advance new scientific approaches and technology innovations to meet the state's clean energy and climate change policies, including but not limited to the areas of renewable energy supply, building and industrial decarbonization, sustainable transportation, energy storage, energy distribution, resilience and reliability, and carbon management. The Sustainability and Resilience Branch invests in projects and applied research that increase community energy resilience and reliability, accelerate food production decarbonization, and support California's transition to a climate-resilient, equitable, and sustainable zero-carbon energy system. The SH Unit performs research to advance technologies and strategies that support a climate resilient energy sector; transition California's energy system to meet decarbonization, affordability, and equity objectives; quantify and mitigate energy-related impacts to human health and to the environment; quantify and reduce methane emissions from the energy sector; and contribute to California's Climate Change Assessments. Minimum Qualifications (MQs): The MQs for this classification can be found at Electric Generation System Specialist Series (4841). Working Conditions The CEC supports a hybrid workplace model with office-based and remote-centered workers. Limited in-person attendance and occasional travel may be required based on the needs of the division. Regular and consistent attendance is essential to successful performance. This position is remote-centered, which means the incumbent works 50 percent or more of their time from an alternate work location.
