The University of Wisconsin - Green Bay is currently seeking applications for a 1st shift Custodian position. This position will have work hours from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and will maintain the overall appearance and cleanliness of the designated work area. Work performed in this position includes manual cleaning and maintenance of UWGB buildings. General areas of responsibility include: cleaning offices, restrooms, and other building areas; maintaining all floor surfaces including mopping, buffing, vacuuming, shampooing, and refinishing; cleaning windows (inside and outside); cleaning furniture; assisting with furniture, piano and equipment moves as required; stocking restrooms and custodial work areas with necessary supplies and products; waste and recycling removal; snow removal and salting of building entrances. Work is performed under the direction of the Custodial Services Supervisor. This position will be required to drive a State vehicle and travel between work locations as needed. Key Job Responsibilities:
Utilizes basic equipment and supplies to clean assigned facility areas and remove waste and recyclables Maintains clean and clear walkways to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice Documents and reports repairs, violations, and pest control needs Maintains organization of supply areas and equipment, documents inventory, and requests additional supplies as needed Monitors and secures facility interior and exterior entrances and reports issues to appropriate entities Department:
Facilities Management - Custodial Operations Compensation:
Hourly wage of $17.00. This position will earn an additional $0.80 per hour for all weekend hours worked, as well as for all hours worked between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. This position is not exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Benefits: UW System provides an excellent benefits package to meet the diverse needs of its employees. This includes several health insurance options, with annual deductibles as low as $250/individual and $500/family. Our benefits package also includes dental, vision, several life insurance options, AD&D and Accident insurance and Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts. We participate in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS), where employer contributions begin immediately and employees are fully vested after 5 years of service. The UW System also provides supplemental retirement savings programs including a 403(b) and Deferred Compensation. In addition, employees receive several types of paid leave benefits, which are prorated for employees working less than 100%. This includes 9 legal holidays, 36 hours of personal holiday and between 96-130 hours of sick leave annually. Employees earn 13-27 days of vacation each year, depending on years of service and employment type. Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent at time of application Possession of or eligibility to obtain a valid drivers license upon appointment Basic Computer skills including the ability to use e-mail and internet Preferred Qualifications:
Bilingual, preferably in Spanish, Hmong, Somali, or Oneida Knowledge of the proper methods, materials, and equipment for a wide range of general custodian work Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as a vacuum cleaner or a floor scrubber Knowledge of basic safety precautions including the safe and proper use of toxic chemicals, and knowledge of heavy lifting methods to ensure safety Must have the ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness Ability to tolerate temperature extremes when performing snow removal activities Physical Qualifications:
Physical abilities to lift 50 lbs. from the floor to waist occasionally Physical abilities to lift 30 lbs. from the floor to overhead occasionally Physical abilities to stand and walk continuously throughout an eight hour shift Ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, kneel, move furniture, perform repetitive motions, overhead work, frequent stair and ladder climbing Conditions of Appointment:
A criminal conviction investigation and pre-work screen examination will be conducted on the finalist(s). A six-month probationary period is required for this position.
