License: Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) or Radiology Technologist (ARRT) with Cardiac Interventional (CI) or Vascular Interventional (VI). Certifications: Valid BLS certification required, ACLS certification required within six months of hire. Must-Have: Experience scrubbing within Cath Lab, team-oriented mentality, willingness to assist when needed. Description: Demonstrates understanding of cardiac, vascular, respiratory, and renal physiology and pathology. Assists with orientation and training of Cath Lab staff. Responsible for special projects and may include participating in relevant committees. Adheres to the principles of medical ethics as applied to the role. Demonstrates thorough understanding of ECG and related medical terminology. Recognizes ECG waveform morphology, wave patterns and their significance, including lethal arrhythmias. Identifies and interprets ECG changes occurring in heart chamber enlargement and myocardial infarctions, responding appropriately. Lists and describes the most common cardiac pathologies, including symptoms and treatments. Demonstrates an understanding of all cardiac medications and their pharmacokinetics related to cardiac and vascular functions. Properly documents medications, including indications for administration and dosages. Recognizes and alerts physicians to abnormalities with clinical laboratory values for arterial blood gases, electrolytes, hemoglobin, BUN, and creatinine. Demonstrates knowledge of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and performs all components as required. Monitors a diagnostic cardiac catheter procedure. Intervenes appropriately during and after a lethal arrhythmia using ACLS standards if warranted. Identifies coronary anatomy in cine angiographic projections. Identifies cardiac pressure waveforms and informs the interventional cardiologist when applicable. Calculates basic hemodynamic parameters using the recording computer. Records catheterization events in the database computer. Understands necessary supplies required, can provide them, and set up a table for diagnostic cardiac catheterization. Describes the fundamental steps in a diagnostic heart catheterization and safely monitors a patient during the procedure. Performs cardiac outputs, O2 saturations, and ACT measurements. Monitors a percutaneous intervention and differentiates between various procedures such as PTCA, directional, and mechanical rotation atherectomy. Possesses a full understanding of all extraction devices such as angiojet, rotoblator, and laser revascularization devices. Explains the indication and potential complications of thrombolytic therapy for acute myocardial infarction. Identifies the benefits of supplementing angiographic imaging with intravascular ultrasound and Doppler velocimetry technologies. Describes indications for electrophysiologic testing, and therapeutic ablation, including implantable cardioverter defibrillators. Identifies the main components of the fluoroscopy system and utilizes necessary components to ensure proper visibility during procedures. Demonstrates customer service responsibilities, standards, and behaviors. Exhibits personal qualities such as being self-directed, flexible, and committed to the team concept. Demonstrates teamwork, initiative, and willingness to learn. Accepts and respects diversity without judgment. Exhibits customer service values. Ability to scrub in a sterile environment for extended periods. Ability to wear lead aprons weighing up to 5 lbs. for extended periods. Ability to assist in lifting patients from stretcher/bed to procedure table. Ability to push a bed or stretcher with an immobilized patient, with team assistance as needed. Education: High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. Graduate of an accredited program in Allied Health Sciences or equivalent academic program and experience.
