Job Title: Med/Tele/PCU RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: PCU experience and ability to read strips Description: The department consists of a Med/Tele RN team. The unit has 32 beds with nurse to patient ratios of 1:4-5, and occasionally 5-6 at night. PCU level care overflow is managed at a ratio of 1:3. Common diagnoses and types of patients include adults and geriatrics, cardiac catheterizations, EP studies, pacemakers, and alcohol withdrawal. Patients may also include those with COVID-19 requiring Bipap support, as well as general surgical patients with cardiac histories. Medical patients often have a history of cardiac conditions, pneumonia, acute on chronic conditions, and influenza. Experience as a tele/cardiac RN with PCU experience is necessary, and familiarity with Epic electronic health records is preferred. First-time travelers will be considered. RNs are required to titrate drips, including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low-dose Dopamine. No Levophed is utilized. There is a charge nurse present on each shift, who may occasionally take a light patient load of 2-3 patients. There are patient care technicians on the unit, with a target ratio of 1:10. RNs will troubleshoot various respiratory equipment, including Bipap, trachs, and high flow devices. RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own cardiac strips. Shifts are scheduled from 7 am to 7 pm or 7 pm to 7 am, with rotation not exceeding once per week. The manager will craft the schedule and will accommodate blocked scheduling based on unit needs. Weekend coverage is required every other weekend, along with holiday coverage every other holiday. All nurses may be required to float across different areas as needed, including full PCU or medical-surgical assignments. There is no uniform color restriction; any color scrubs are acceptable. Two shifts of unit-specific orientation will be provided, covering 12-hour shifts on the first Friday and Saturday, with RNs expected to be independent by Sunday. This unit primarily focuses on telemetry and cardiac care. A radius rule applies, where candidates must live within 50 miles. Requests for time off must be submitted upfront, with limitations on additional requests during the contract. Cancellation policy includes 4 shifts per contract or 3 shifts for contracts under 13 weeks. The charting system in use is Epic. A BSN is not required. This position falls under Trauma Level 2 care setting.
