The role includes preparation, examination, issuance, and return of blood products, as well as participation in platelet culture sampling, inoculation, and bacterial culturing. The MLT ensures compliance with all Florida state regulations, Suncoast Blood Centers policies, and strict Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) procedures.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation:Associate's degree or equivalent as required for Florida state licensure.Experience:Minimum of 2 years of clinical laboratory experience, including 1 year in blood banking.Skills and Abilities:Proficiency in manual and automated laboratory testing methods.Strong organizational and inventory management skills.Effective communication and problem-solving skills.Ability to provide guidance and training to blood bank specialists and new employees.Attention to detail to ensure quality control and compliance.Licenses/Certifications:Valid Florida Clinical Laboratory Technician License.Hematology license/certificate.Valid Florida Driver's License with a clean driving record and reliable transportation.A proper Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) may be required if travel is included with the position.LEGAL AND REGULATORY REQUIREMENTSEnsure adherence to Florida's labor laws, including wage and hour regulations, anti-discrimination laws, and workplace safety standards.Compliance with HIPAA and Florida privacy laws, ensuring all sensitive donor information is handled securely.Successful completion of background check and drug testing as per the Florida Drug-Free Workplace Act.Compliance with all Suncoast Blood Centers policies, procedures, and strict cGMP guidelines.PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTSPhysical Requirements:Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects up to 50 pounds.Ability to stand, walk, kneel, and perform laboratory tasks for extended periods.Ability to travel to off-site locations as needed.May need to come in for an on-call assignment during off hours.Environmental Requirements:Exposure to varying environmental conditions, including blood-borne pathogens.Work environment may include moderate noise levels.Handling of hazardous materials in accordance with safety guidelines.JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIESPerform pretransfusion and diagnostic testing using manual and automated methodologies.Prepare, examine, issue, and return blood products.Perform in sampling and inoculation of platelet cultures and bacterial culturing.Conduct irradiation of blood products.Manage and maintain product inventory, ensuring proper storage and organization.Ship and receive blood products to and from consignment hospitals and outside sources.Communicate with and assist hospital support, nursing, and medical staff regarding status of products and service orders.Provide guidance to Blood Bank specialists and assist in the training of new employees.Maintain and organize supply inventory, ensuring appropriate levels and reporting to the director.Receive supplies and reagents from vendors, reconciling shipments with packing slips.Perform quality control (QC), maintenance, validation, and calibration of laboratory equipment, reporting any malfunctions to the director.Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.Adhere to strict cGMP procedures to ensure quality and regulatory compliance.OTHER DUTIES:Performs other related duties as necessary to support Suncoast Blood Centers' mission, vision, and values.Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Statement:Suncoast Blood Centers is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
