Terms of Employment: The contract length will be 190 days. Salary Schedule O

Evaluation: Based on local district policy and Arkansas Department of Education guidelines, and performed by the director of special education & federal programs.

Job Goal: The Occupational Therapist will endeavor to support academic achievement and social participation by promoting occupation within all school routines, including recess, classroom, and cafeteria time.

Performance Responsibilities:

Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policies and procedures. Conducts student screening as established by the Conway Public Schools. Observes and identifies students with disabilities/suspected disabilities who may need occupational therapy services in order to access their special education. Articulates the differences in occupational therapy in a medical model and an educational model to school personnel and parents. Administers and interprets appropriate assessments of visual motor, fine motor, and sensory motor skills; reports results; explains findings to parents, faculty and staff. Provides a written report of assessment information with recommendations to the evaluation/programming committee when deemed necessary. Recommends referral of students to appropriate support agencies or medical providers as a result of screening or formal evaluation, as necessary. Recommends appropriate long and short goals regarding occupational therapy services and interpretation of the goals to school personnel and parents. Provides direct, indirect, or consultative services to each child as defined in the child's Individualized Educational Program (IEP) or as directed, as appropriate. 10. Develops appropriate therapy schedules and administers therapy based on needs assessed and established in the Individualized Educational Plan (IEP). 11. Provides reevaluations within timelines. 12. Maintains legally defensible notes, included but not limited to notes for Medicaid billing. 13. Participates in conferences with school personnel and parents when program changes are indicated; minimally, an annual review of the program. 14. Upon request, provides counseling, consultation, or in-service programs to teachers, parents, or community members as a representative of the Conway Public School District. 15. Recommends materials, supplies, and equipment for carrying out the function of the position to the school principal. 16. Participates in appropriate inservices and workshops. 17. Supervises licensed occupational therapy assistants (Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant/COTA), when applicable. 18. Other duties, as assigned.
