Summary This vacancy is for a GS-0856-11, Electronics Technician (CYBER) in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, Long Range Communications Section located in Portsmouth, VA. Responsibilities You will serve as a Electronics Technician (CYBER) and be responsible for providing technical support to customers who need assistance utilizing client-level hardware and software in accordance with established or approved organizational process components. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Participating in the planning, design, installation, and testing of high frequency (HF) shore communication systems, including transmitters, receivers, antennas, couplers, and related control equipment. Supporting technology refresh projects and capability upgrades to improve system performance, reliability, interoperability, and cybersecurity compliance. Updating technical manuals, configuration baselines, and system records in accordance with Coast Guard and DoD requirements. Assist with ensuring HF shore systems meet applicable cybersecurity standards under the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and supporting vulnerability scanning and mitigation activities. Researching emerging HF technologies, industry standards, and DoD/USCG communication policies and assisting in developing technical requirements, specifications, and engineering change proposals. Assisting in preparing engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and system documentation and conducting site surveys and assist in system integration and acceptance testing. Qualifications To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09/10 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Specialized experience must include the following: Installing, maintaining, or repairing HF or other RF communication systems; and Preparing and interpreting technical drawings and specifications for equipment integration; and Performing intermediate-level troubleshooting using standard test equipment; and Assisting with configuration management documentation.
