Minimum Candidate Qualifications:
The candidate must have a minimum of:
a. Bachelor's degree including 24 semester credit hours in mathematics, statistics, or actuarial science; and
b.Eligible to work in New York State; and
c. One or more of the following:
Three (3) or more years of experience performing rate studies in the Property Casualty Insurance industry and is a Fellow or Associate of the Casualty Actuary Society (CAS); or
Passed at least four (4) CAS exams and has seven (7) or more years of experience in Property Casualty
Insurance actuarial ratemaking.
Job Description and Required Services:
• provide recommendations for disposition of rate filings assigned to contractor.
• participation in various meetings at the request of the Department may be required to discuss all facets of the rate filing.
• provide a completed DFS indication spreadsheet and presentation spreadsheet.
• the following Deliverables should be included in an Internal Actuarial Memo:
o Actuarial rate recommendations
o Description of the process used to evaluate the rate filing
o Recommendations to the preparer of the subject rate filing
o Assumptions and methods
o Reliability of underlying data sources
o Caveats related to the study
o must include all written and electronic report(s), along with all supporting documentation for the recommended disposition.
• assists in checking the mathematical accuracy of calculations;
• reviews insurance company rate filings for compliance with standards; maintains in-house databases;
• assists with special projects and research as needed; and
• performs other duties as assigned.
In addition, the candidate must possess and/or have the ability to:
a. Work individually and as part of a team.
b. Track and manage reporting projects without daily oversight.
c. Excellent verbal communication, writing, and interpersonal skills.
d. Strong project management skills, including experience managing multiple time-sensitive, complex projects simultaneously.
e. Detail-oriented with the ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
f. Proficiency with Microsoft 365, including working experience with Excel, Teams, WebEx, and Zoom.
g. Manage varied tasks as assigned
